Ipod touch battery problem

Options
Hi,

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My husband has a first generation ipod touch. When it is on the docking station it is fine and plays music no probs. However when he takes it off, the Ipod goes flat extremely quickly.

I don't have much technical knowledge but am presuming it is the battery that has had it. Is it possible to change the battery yourself and if so anyone got any suggestions as to where best to buy them. I have not enquired with Apple yet as to the cost if they do it but am presuming it won't be cheap! Also if anyone has changed the battery themselves is it straightforward?

Many thanks for any help. :)
