in Credit cards
Hi!
I recently found out that I inadvertently made a purchase on a dormant credit card a year a go and it went unpaid and therefore to debt collectors.
I will pay it off soon, and then hopefully MBNA will reinstate my card so I can start to build up my credit rating. I would like to write to the big 3 agencies to ask if I can put a note on my report, saying that the debt was unintentional and is now settled in full. Can anyone help me with the wording of this and is there hope of having my card reisnstated? I was a long term good customer before that, but not the sort that makes them a lot of money.

Its highly doubtful your card would be reinstated and a note would be put on with the relevant cra's saying the debt was unintentional as usually the notes cover errors of adminstrative inputting or links that are no longer there.0

You could put a note on your files but a defaulted account and a debt collection company on you file doesn't look good. it's unlikely to make much difference. Everyone could say they accidently defaulted, you may as well leave it.0

Thanks. You mean not bother paying it either?0

Up to you that default will be on your file for 6 years. if you pay it off the debt company will leave you alone. i assume the original default is in the past 6 years? if it was over 6 years they can't enforce it.0

The debt company never found me and knew nothing till I got a credit report a few days ago. It was a year since I made the mistake. I had not used the credit card for a few years and must have picked it up in error but how come it went through as the address on it was an old one?0

I must add that previous to this I always had an excellent score and have never ever had a default previously. It seems so unfair.0

I made quite a few purchases at the time - just returning from living abroad and missed checking this one on my debit card. I only found out it is on my mbna card this week.0
