Had problems with search assistant 180, which I've got rid of but now got search2web, which is proving very difficult to shift, the popups are driving me mad!
I've downloaded Hijackthis and got my logfile, but I'm a bit scared of doing anything with it, cos my knowledge is very limited and I'm worried about deleting something I shouldn't!
Can anyone tell me which things I should get rid of please?

P.S. I gave the slightly incorrrect site. http://www.d-a-l.com/help/forumdisplay.php?f=8I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Thanks Peter,
Have posted there, just a bit worried that any answers will go straight over my head, not very confident or capable! :-[

Don't worry, from what I have read they are very good at handholding till you get it right.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Hi, I've been watching progress, All clear now?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Hi Peter,
You were right, the guy helping me is very good at 'hand holding'
Nearly had a panic attack when I saw the first list of instructions;D But I followed the instruction links and printed everything off and just took it nice and easy one by one. Considering I am only learning, I have managed to do it and it feels good!
I assume the guy will tell me more in his next reply, but I'm not scared now! Comp is running a treat and so much faster.
Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction Peter.Laughter is the sun

Hi,
Your better off using Adaware to get rid of spyware as it removes it for you, and i find it detects alot more stuff than most anti-adware programs do.
You can get it free at: https://www.lavasoft.com0 -
Every computer should have Adaware & Spybot S&D installed but they don't shift everything. I always install Win Patrol too, which can prevent nasties from finding a way in but there are still times when you have to use Hijack This! to remove things manually.0

HijackThis log file analysis
HijackThis is a program used by experienced users in order to detect browser hijackers. It allows you to identify any sort of spyware and malware (as well as some trojan horses and worms). This is achieved by scanning special zones of the registry as well as the hard disk drive, the results being listed in a structured window. Another feature of HijackThis is the creation of a log file, which can be saved as a simple text file and opened by any text editor (notepad as default). Until now, inexperienced users, who could not analyze the log file by themselves, had no other choice than posting it in a specialized forum and to hope that a more experienced user takes some time to analyze it. The script presented on this page is a way to analyze your log without help from the outside: simply copy/paste the content of the log file in the textbox below and hit the analyze button. HijackThis is free and does not need to be installed. It can be downloaded here:
Due to a few misunderstandings, I just want to make it clear that this site provides only an online analysis, and not HijackThis the program.
