    Morning all,

It becomes obsessive rounding the OPs cardiffmatch, well done on the extra OP which is all updated for you.

A proportion of my OPs go into a savings account that I offset (not a formal scheme) against the mortgage and I have a diary so you can mix and match as you feel. The main goal of your diary is still paying off the mortgage, how you get there will depend on your own circumstances. Hope that helps.

    See you later,

  • Arrgh......am in a bit of a quandary today but think I am working out a plan of action. In last few years I have put all spare money in to OPs but at the same time have been really concerned at the state of the house :(. I have not been joking about the potential of windows falling in! I have been worried that mortgage will be paid off but house will be worth nothing so I am now thinking I should actually invest in the house. I am thinking of taking out a loan for £7500 to pay for windows, three internal doors and a replacement bathroom basin and shower over the bath . Hate the idea of taking out a loan but have worked out that I can reduce OPs if necessary from £250 per month to £180 and still end mortgage 4 years early on target date in 2018. Also if public sector employees ever get a payrise again OPs could be increased. Plan is therefore to be loan free in five years and MF in 6 years and then PARTY!!!! In meantime looking forward to next payday to Op again.:j
    MFW - number 11 :)

OP Target for 2014 £1500 Mortgage now £43745

    Morning all,

Your great OP is noted Tony_R, well done.

Every little helps Barny, all updated for you.

From the googledoc, Retireat50 your June and July OPs are updated.

That's a big decision lighthousescotland but it sounds like you really need to do the work. Is there any option to borrow back your OPs or take out a further advance on your mortgage? I would have thought it would be cheaper interest rate wise but could very easily be wrong. Good luck whichever way you go with it.

    See you later,

Happy Friday everyone from MFW #151!

    Payday today :j:j:j

In an accounting quirk, I have a further overpayment of £250 this month. This is because I changed all my direct debits and standing orders at the end of last month, meaning that on paper I have made two lots of some payments this month.

One the one hand this is exciting. On the other, my August payment will be quite diddy, although my interest rate drops precipitously on 31st July. I haven't yet worked out if that means my mortgage payment (fixed amount) on 31st July will be a larger overpayment or if that joy waits until the end of August.

We are off to London to see a couple of Proms this weekend, our summer luxury. In the past we would have stayed in a hotel for the weekend but this year we will stay with my parents just outside London and bank the £100+ per night a hotel near the hall would have cost us. Tres MFW indeed :T
