hi
both my daughters laptops have died , eldest girl needs hers for university, youngest for GCSEs and the usual other stuff youtube facebook etc
i know ZERO about computers, my husband bought those a few years ago theyre dell inspiron something or other and the hinges went on both of them and the warranties didnt cover the hinges
so.......
i dont want to bother with warranties
got a max of £380 for each computer and all i know is the names eg dell toshiba acer etc
can anyone recommend a modern machine with good hinges a reliable model and lastly where to buy it from??
i know all machines have a 1 yr warranty but what is the best shop to buy from in the event of needing to take it back with the receipt during the 1st year of a laptops life assuming its well looked after and you dont get the flannel if you have to go back to the shop about its not our fault its your fault dont bring it back to us take it to xyz blah blah blah in other words an honest trader who wont stitch me up in my ignorance
i just need a new laptop with the best specs from a honest trader, so that if anything happens, i wont google and get appalling customer service record/horror stories on the internet like you do with argos or pc world
after a bit of research i like the look of this laptop at john lewis as it comes with a 2yr free warranty and good battery life decent specs, opinions about this model pls thanks , its priced at 400 quid a bit above what i have saved though i could scrape up the difference just, and john lewis have a very good rep for all things in general

Toshiba Satellite L750-1DQ Laptop, Intel Pentium, 2.1GHz, 6GB RAM, 640GB, 15.6", Red
similar models are £430 elsewhere and when they do match on price and specs they arent intel but AMD
thank you in advance for any help, it would be appreciated and im grateful:)

Brand new and only sold as a refurb so they can lawfully reduce the warranty of a 2010 gen model to 3 months.
£279 for a 17.3" laptop with a decent spec for everything but gaming, it's an utter steal.
Add a further years warranty for £30 if you're the worrying type.0 -
thank you for the quick reply much appreciated0

hinges are cheap if that's what you mean by died!!

Could the eldest girl manage with an 11.6" screen?
Less pressure on the hinges, and easier to carry around at university.

If not, no point in spending much more than £300 for either daughter.
This Samsung has a decent spec for £279, although it looks like you have to mess around with a £50 cashback offer to get it for that price

I bought a decent HP laptop on sale from Argos yesterday - an HP G72 with 17" screen, 500GB HDD and 4GB RAM - newer processer than the Acer and more memory and drive space, it was £379. My Dell Inspiron (2008) died on me yesterday and I needed a laptop urgently. This HP is excellent and good for the price.0

Not a good advert for Dell! What did your girls do to the hinges!? And won't Dell give some compensation for a laptop that is only 3 years old?If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0
