Ohwel no point keeping old technology i mean 1.44mb, in todays terms what can that hold, and the noise they made during transfer, and when you formatted them!! Everything goes out eventually or a newer thing is brought out. But nothing ever goes away as my college lecturer says....he still talks about btx motherboards,5pin dins etc Back in the day lol0

My very first computer, a lappy bought in 2000 and then state of the art, is still in perfect order and has W98 and floppy drive plus CD/DVD reader only. The next two lappies have Xp and only a CD/DVD drive.
In order to transfer files from the old one I had to buy an external floppy drive (about 2 years ago) and that worked very well. I now use memory sticks or CDs to store data, but when I go away on business I like to carry the old lappy as it's more compact than the others, so I transfer data onto a floppy, of which I have about 15.
This arrangement suits me well and for as long as the old lappy works, I will use it. Damn slow though...Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

Also got a database proggy on punchcards complete with reader. ANy Win XP drivers?0 -

I wasn't comparing them to anything then, I just said I have hated them since they were invented. They are slow etc which is true, not that they were all those things WHEN they were invented, learn to read my friend, your life will be a lot more fulfilled.0 -
Considering that most floppy disks have a lifetime guarantee, this could be interesting when they fail and you want to return them to the shop...
I used to work with a software supplier, and it's something that they absolutely dread these days - people demanding (quite rightly) that the faulty product is replaced under the lifetime guarantee.

The supplier could argue that, if the floppy is dead, it has reached the end of its life.0 -
Ho,
Floppy discs indeed, what about paper tape and punched cards.
Maybe I am showing my age a bit here?
