Eidolon
I would recommend around the south east part of london. I was looking at places in elephant and castle, I worked around there and also looked for porperty, and there are some great little pockets. One reason I suggest this area is due to its proximity to the river and city, but still the ability for some green grass. Amazing especially this close to zone 1. There are really good bus links, you have a british rail station at your door, and you are in London. You can walk south bank, or even go into the city and still walk home. So there are no concerns about what time you leave the city. As a single female, I feel really safe there. And you can easily get out of london because you have lots of main line stations at waterloo and just over the river.
There are some wonderful markets around this area as well. I have lived in west london for 7 years and have decided that around this area is the best place to live if you want central london cheaper. London is actually quite cheap once you have accommodation and transport under control.
Good luck!0 -
How do you intend to travel? And where you are going to work? should help define some of this. I recommend around south east, elephant and castle is good. It depends on what you like. The reason I suggest this area. It is cheaper and just in zone 2. You can actually walk to south bank and the city (can't get better than that). There are even nice grassy patches around there as well. I have lived in London for 7 year in and around Kensington and fulham and although lovely they are more expensive and further away. Elephant and Castle has many advantages, and being able to walk home from work over a bridge after work, in summer, it just doesn't get any better.
Hope this helps somewhat.0 -
So, eidolon, have you decided where you are going to live? Any decisions made yet?The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket. :rolleyes:0

Hi there. Ive been living in London for 2 years now. I live in Tooting Broadway (Northern Line, South) - my rent is £280.00 per month (sharing a 3 bed flat) plus around £45.00 bills (tv, council tax, electric, gas, water, landline)....It takes me 35 minutes to get to work (Green Park), and the zone 1-3 travelcard is £90 a month.......
Do you really want to spend £500 a month on your accommodation? Can you afford to? If you can, then fair enough, but there are places a lot cheaper. It's cheaper for me to live in London than it is to commute from Herts, strangely enough.
Clapham is a great area, very "cosmopolitan" - they have Clapham Common (ideal if you dont have a garden), lots of bars, clubs, restaurants - Clapham Junction, you can get a train to Victoria in 10 minutes (and is Zone 2) - there is a cinema too - also very close to Wimbledon..
As another poster suggests, https://www.thegumtree.com
is a fab website. Although im british, this is where I have found ALL of my flats - its great!!
Let us know how you get on.
