Found one like that on our rice the other day. Checked through the whole bag and there weren't any more but I chucked it anyway. The day before I'd found a load of what I am sure was tiny maggots in a soup I defrosted. Threw the whole batch away. I imagine it's because I left the lid off and left it out overnight... never making that mistake again!

  • I had them in barley once, they floated to the top when I was washing it and I used the barley after washing. I always wash all grains but tbh the bugs don`t harm you. I also had weavils in flour, when I used to keep bags on a shelf. Never again, that took some cleaning so now everything ground goes straight into lock and lock boxes as soon as bought and grains in bulk are re-packed into smaller bags and vacuumed and sealed or just sealed. At least they will be confined if I ever get them again
  • The extreme OS point of view is that they are free extra protein. Only pick the small ones though. As they say, one should always choose the lesser of two weevils.

Putting flour, rice or pasta in the freezer overnight should kill any eggs that may be in it.
