  • Hi Sorry if this question has already been answered, but if anyone can help I would be very grateful.
In 1995 for various reasons my ex and I had to sell our house as we had got ourselves into a lot of debt. Sadly about 6 or 7 months before we sold it, we obtained a loan from a company called 'igroup', in the hope it would solve some of our problems.

The long and the short of is...the loan didn't help and we ended up selling the house at a loss, not only that but we had to give igroup £10,000 from the sale of the property because we hadn't had the loan for a year. Is there any way this can be claimed back? Also I don't think I have any of the details left to persue a claim?

Many thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Dunno about that i rang halifax today to try and reclaim my MEAF and the guy on the other end of the phone said he hadnt done one for about 6 months.

Anyway he told me the going rate at the time of my mortgage with them (2006) was 115 quid and id been charged 115 quid even though my statements said my MEAF was 175. So no luck for me then:(

I've just been on the phone to The Woolwich and Halifax to have a go at reclaiming repayment admin fees from them.

    Success, up to a point:

The Woolwich charged me £195 Redemption Fee in 2004, they are refunding me £100 + interest of £29.71 = £129.71. No quibbling.

Halifax charged me £175 Repayment Admin Fee in 2007 when I redeemed my mortgage. No luck with them, they said the amount was as per the original agreement. I can write to Head Office if I wish.

Not a bad outcome for 30 minutes on the phone. Thanks MSE.

Hi, I wrote to the Skipton after paying what I thought was £195 on the redemption admin fee (I couldnt find the original paperwork).

I have received a reply this am saying that I paid £125 as the skipton had reviewed and reduced fees during our mortgage term so I cannot have a refund.

Any advice on how and if to proceed please?

You are not entitled to a refund if the fee you paid matched the fee agreed when your last contract offer was signed. i .e. if that was £125 and you paid £125 then you have not overpaid.

  • Alliance & Leicester charged me £295 for paying off a mortgage I took out in 2005. I called and asked the handler to explain exactly what it was. (It was called a Redemption Admin Charge.) I got him to confirm it was not an early redemption charge and was in fact a MEAF. I asked him to justify exactly what they were charging. Lot of unconvincing waffle!! He suggested I write in. I did so using the template here and today was told they were in fact now only going to charge me £85!!! Result. Many thanks!!!!
