Help with Blu-ray DVD formats!!

I'm not sure if this counts as a "techie" question or not but...
I want to buy some DVDs for xmas and they seem to come in a bewildering variety of formats now. Btw, I have a Blu-ray player.
Cars 2 apparently comes in: DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D. What on earth? Is it safe to assume that the 3D thing is something to be ignored and I should buy the blu-ray version?
Beauty and the Beast. This comes in: DVD, "Blu-ray + DVD, with Blu-ray Packaging" and "DVD + Blu-ray, with DVD Packaging". Hmm? Again, is the blu-ray packaging the one I should purchase?
As you can infer from the titles, these DVDs are for my kids so I don't want to make a mistake! Thanks for any help.
