House insurance hikes - RANT!

  • It doesn't pay to be loyal ever. I always shop around and often find that insurance hike premiums every year regardless if you claim or not they tend to give new customers discounts at the expense of loyal customers.

I also had a similar problem and only discovered quite by accident that our insurer was taking into account that we live quite near to a river. Our premiums started to rise considerably after that satelite thing was done to "map" areas.

That said, we are so much higher than the river that the whole of the valley would have to be flooded to quite a considerable depth before it would come anywhere near to us.

I got in touch with the Environment Agency who agreed, and gave us documentation to provide evidence for the insurance companies, and since then we have had no problem with such insurance hikes. It has to be said though that there were insurance companies who would not take this evidence into consideration.

Don't just accept it - find out why they are hiking up your premiums AND get alternative quotes.

    Insurance companies are pests!

I have private hire insurance out a few years ago, the renewal quote went from £1400 to £106,000 :shocker:

I've just renewed my house insurance tonight (by the skin of my teeth, it runs out tomorrow!)

I used the site with the free furry toys and the cheapest quote came out with Swinton.
I used Swinton a few years ago and they were such a pain with their incessant emails, texts and phone calls that when I changed insurers at the end of the year, I emailed them and told them to never contact me again, to remove me from their data lists or else I would complain etc etc.
I wouldn't mind but I ALWAYS tick the box that says "no contact":mad:
I can't bear the thought of going with them again so I chose to pay £17 more to the next cheapest insurer. Not very MSE but better for my temper!

interestingly mine came in the same as last year - BUT - I found out if you have a house/car policy with Direct Line you get a discount on them - so despite Tesco sending mine in the same I left - got a discount on a house and car policy, so far saving £35 off the house and £85 off the car - will move the other car to them when it comes up for renewal, saving at least a further £90 - well worth consolidating if you can...
