Are you smarter than a [STRIKE]10[/STRIKE] 11-year old?

    Clearly not.

Nearly 10% of pedestrians killed by motorists are killed ON THE PAVEMENT.

Not only that, but if I cross a 30mph road that is clear that is safe, but not if you come speeding along at 60mph.

Blaming the victim is absolutely disgusting.

I'd take a jury of 11-year-olds over the likes of you any day.

I don't have any sympathy for people caught speeding, it's one thing to speed but to get caught shows an extra level of inattention and foolishness. How is it that people manage to drive for decades with no points but some 'unfortunate' people get totted up within a couple of years? They are BAD drivers, totally inattentive, a menance to society, and we want them OFF the road.

I'd be massively surprised if the vast proportion of that 10% weren't on drink, drugs or driving a stolen vehicle.

No need to act like a jackass because somebody made a typo.

I thought you were blaming the pedestrians for being drunk. I thought that was the idea of this thread, blame people for being hit by cars.

Now I see that your logic is slightly more sophisticated than that:

It's ok to drive at 60 mph in a 30mph zone, and anyone hit by a speeding vehicle is either to blame for not getting out of the way. If the pedestrian wasn't to blame, then the driver is an illegal immigrant/drunk/on drugs/not insured. These factors are much more important than speed, therefore it's still ok to do 60mph in a 30mph.

Oh and drink driving is something other people do. The 'hard-pressed motorist' (he who is completely safe driving at double the speed limit) merely drives home after a couple of well-earned beers/glasses of wine, and is completely blameless in all circumstances.

Thelawnet your attitude isn't doing you any favours, you are obviously capable of constructive replies so why not try this out instead of tabloid-esque nonsense.

You may as well start every post with: "Anyone I disagree with is condoning driving at 60mph outside a school, on the pavement, whilst drunk & on a mobile"

Humm, tricky one, take the points & fine or take part in an entirely pointless (in both senses of the word) 30 min session of pretend self flagellation in front of the most pompous & self-righteous 11 year olds Liverpool can muster?

Think my decision would rest on how much headroom I had left on my licence

    Don't forget the increased insurance
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

So, driving on a road with a 30 limit, past a primary school at opening or closing time at 30mph would be OK, because you're not speeding? But driving past that same spot at 3am at 35mph makes you a menace to society?

I merely said that I have no sympathy for people who get caught speeding. If you don't want to get caught, pay more attention or don't speed. What's the problem? They are not chopping people's hands off for doing 35mph at 3am are they? In the very unlikely event that you got caught doing the same, so what? You got caught you pay a small fine, hopefully you will pay more attention in the future and be a better driver. These people who rack up speeding fines are BAD drivers.

35mph in a 30mph zone is a menace to society at any time. Consider:

At 30mph when hit by a car 20% of pedestrians will be killed
At 35mph though when hit 50% of pedestrians will be killed

5mph certainly makes a difference. Someone could be walking home after a night out or working a late shift.

There is no arguing that actually making contact with a person at a higher speed greatly increases the chances of killing them. Question I have is, what portion of those hit at 35mph were hit by a driver doing 35mph? Not allowing for cases where the driver simply isn't paying any attention or someone somehow manages to time it right to step out literally in front of a car, what speed are the majority of vehicles doing 2 seconds before they make contact? I would be willing to bet its closer to 45 or 50

Personally I think anyone who claims they can't use the speedo AND drive a car isn't safe to be on the road. Sorry but thats just my take on it. Its like not being able to drive more than 20mph (like some older folks) they're dangerous to others. If you're honestly incapable of controlling your speed then you are a danger to other road users.

As for the kids.. theres two points. 1) It's good to make them part of the world and let them experience some responsibility but on the other hand 2) says we should let them be kids and grow up at their own pace. For many years we've been putting the nations kids under a lot of pressure and look at how a lot of them have turned out: Unable to read/write properly, pregnant before they're out of school, rioters, drug dealers etc. Maybe we should just ease off and let them grow up in their own way.

I have to agree with you here.

We have drivers who can't risk looking at the speedo, as they don't have that much skill as they can't concentrate on two things at once, advocating speeding as being ok.
No doubt they'll also be the first to complain if an 8 year old grows up to be the speeding 17 year old, who they have told it's safe to speed in a car, and everyone else has to watch out for them.
