    Unless I'm misreading, I thought the OP rejected the goods as faulty/marked IN THE STORE WHEN COLLECTING. As such they had not accepted the goods and were eligible for a refund, but were brow-beaten by the shop staff and deceived regarding their statutory rights.

    Of course I may be mistaken. OP needs to clarify the exact timing of events.

    Agreed - after you've accepted the goods, THEN the retailer can repair, replace or refund, but it seems here that you rejected the goods immediately, in which case, you are indeed due a refund. Stick to your guns.
