Broken Printer HP PSC 2179

My wonderful other half managed to get a paper jam on someone else's PSC 2179 printer. However, ever since the only message that it will display is that of "error, check and change printer cartridge". After doing so it displays the same message.
Any idea on what the problem is? Is it fixable? Or is it new printer time?
PS. If it is new printer time....an idea of the cheapest source of the same printer would be useful.
