How long?

How long was it before you actually found the type of house you were looking for and brought it? I've been looking since October and still no luck. I've only seen one house I really liked but the location was all wrong.

About 2 weeks, it wasnt what I exactly wanted, mainly bigger garden further away from town but other houses I wanted were £10-20K more in the area I wanted. I had to compromise but in the end I have accepted it. We were planning if things works out to move in a better house in a few years time, but after all agroo, I doubt I will move again.

We started looking in the new year, had 14 viewings on the 7th and 8th Jan, found our dream house on the 8th, put the offer in (and accepted) on the 9th, and are currently waiting for the valuation to happen (vendor on hols atm) and sign contracts.

We hope to be in (and I see no real reason why we shouldn't be) by the beginning of March.

Why does it seem like everyone else is finding a house quicker than I am? I thought people took months to find the perfect house.

We viewed 2 properties and ended up buying the second one, so it within a week of deciding to look we had our offer accepted and sold our flat as well.

However I work with someone who decided to move the same week as me and she still hasn't found a house and has been looking since August last year.
House purchase completed 6th December whole process took 4 months.

Hang in there everyone it is worth it

I'd consider us finding our dream house immediately as very lucky - we'd viewed 13 other houses that weekend, and not a single one came even close.

I guess its just a matter of luck, and ruthless research - hang in there :)
  • We externally viewed about 6 houses and knew instantly we hated them but viewed two internally and fell in love with the second (saw all in about 2 weeks). We are moving in next week and no regrets whatsoever.
  • I looked at 2 houses the first time and bought the second one. Just one house the second time and moved in within 3 months. My 3rd house was the first of 5 that I looked at (work gave me time off to look so I looked at more) and my current home was a spur of the moment thing. Walking past the EAs, we saw the house advertised, asked for the details and a viewing. Bought it.

I'm the same with shoes. If I need a pair of shoes, I go to a shoe shop and buy a pair. I don't need to visit 10 shops.

    :)

At the moment I'm just waiting for my estate agent to come up with something good. But there doesn't seem to be much on the market at the moment.

When I first starting looking for a property I spent two solid weeks going to viewings. But there was always one thing missing from each property...if the house was nice, the location wasn't...or vice versa.

Finding a property near a station (underground) is difficult.

we have found our house it was the second one we had seen. fell in love with it and knew straight away. havent sold ours yet, only been on the market for a week but not had a single viewer. although i got really excited when i see a couple outside looking from their car.... but no viewing.... why dont people like my house.
Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!
  • I'm aiming to move by mid-summer and enjoy the novelty of having a garden so started looking 2 weeks ago (2 viewings so far...nice houses, lousy surroundings) - giving myself 6 months to find somewhere and move in; even then I'm a FTB so have the luxury of time...relatively speaking!
