Omitted Job From Application......

I recently applied for a job with a large national company. 2 years ago I had a 4 month period in a job that ended badly so have airbrushed that from my CV (stupidly perhaps).
I got a phone interview on Thursday and was told I was invited to an interview next week. I have now to fill in an Experian background check which will expose the ommision.
Now have the dilemma as to whether to fill the form in honestly and explain when questioned about it or to phone the company's HR and explain myself on Monday or just cut my losses and not go for the interview.
It's I job I would really love doing working for a company I have 7 years experience working for in the past. (was made redundant in the early 90's) so I feel I would have a really good chance of an offer anyway.

I wouldn't say anything, so long as you didn't lie in place of the job. A CV is what you want to show and if they didn't ask about the gap then to me it's fine.
ETA: Fill the form in honestly though, that is the important part. To be honest I doubt they will compare your CV to the Experian form.0 -
I did extend the length of my previous job on my CV to cover the 4 months of the other one so yes, I suppose I did lie.:(0

They can only checkwhat you put down, the only way anyone can find out where you worked(unless you or a friend tells then) is through the tax office. The tax office will not give this information out to anyone bar you and they are really strict.
Plenty of people have legitimate gaps, where they havent been signing on or working.
Experion cannot check your tax records, they cant find out where you worked.0 -
Be honest, if you are found out after you are offered the job you will be sacked. Some employers do very thorough checks. What if your reference from your previous employer gives different dates to what you've put on your CV ? My son was asked about a job he'd had for 2 weeks in his interview for his current job. He was asked about this when he had been in the position for 3 months ! They went through his CV with a fine toothcomb. He'd previously been dismissed from a job for Gross Misconduct but he still got the job ! (the dismissal was by default, so that was taken into account when he applied for the job he has now though)0

Really? You would be amazed what information Experion hold or have access to.0 -
O.k then tell me how they find out where you worked if you dont list it?
Yes I would be amazed,Please do elaborate further?
You cant can you? and are bluffing?0 -
Hmm... I think it's OK to omit details of a job that went wrong, most people have had one of those and it doesn't necessarily reflect badly on you. Most employers should be understanding anyway or give you the benefit of the doubt - there are two sides to every story after all. However, it'll vary, and I guess some employers would be very hardline about it. I wouldn't want to work for one who was that rigid and harsh, to be honest.
I'm intrigued about the omniscience of Experian too... are they watching us, like, right now?0 -

Depending on the type of job, your details may be listed on their website, in publications, editorials, trade magazines etc. which would remain in cache. Of course HMRC have records but dont think Experian etc have got that far....yet!0 -
How long ago was the role?
Is it something that you could just list on your CV with the dates and say it was a fixed term contract?0 -
The job was 2 years ago. I called the HR department and told them, doesn't seem to be a problem. It would have caused an issue if I didn't say and it came up at the reference stage.
Just hoping for the best for the interviews on Thursday.0
