Cheapest business phone line ?

I'm on a BT Business plan where the quarterly standing charge is £57 + vat.
I'm pretty much part-time these days and make only a handful of outgoing calls which I could just as well make from my mobile.
I'm looking to reduce all my overheads so what I need is the cheapest possible line rental + call diversion.
Are there any trustworthy alternatives to BT ?

We use Virgin Media and pay a lot less than that, but don't use forwarding (although I'm sure that's available).Signature removed for peace of mind0

PlusNet Business are good, but you need to have one of their broadband products. They have a genuine business product and support team, which I've always found very good value for money.
There are a lot of telecoms dealers out there, though, if it's just line rentals and calls you are worried about. The company I work for is a dealer for one of the very best ones (IMO) in Scotland - but I'm not going name names here. Look around for companies offering £12-14 line rentals over 12 months (24 max) and who offer straightforward call package costs. BT, again, in my opinion, don't offer great value - some of their business plans are confusing and do not always represent the best value for money.0 -
If you dont really need a landline but just want the benefit of a geographical number for incoming calls have a look at www.flextel.com where you can purchase a geographical number outright usually quite cheaply and divert direct to your mobile and pay 4p a minute for the incoming calls, but the beauty of it is you pay no line rental whatsoever.0

Also have a look at ringcentral - we use them for fax but their phone deals are strong as well.
They can give you a geographic or non geographic number and it redirects to either your landline, pc using VOIP, or a mobile.
Very clever system for a lot less than line rental.0 -
Thanks for all the replies.
I really need to keep the landline (and the number) for the simple reason I work in a dirty/noisy workshop and wouldn't be able to hear a mobile ringing nor would I have it on my person.I've had the same number for over 20 years so customers already know it.
I'll investigate some of your suggestions0
