Insurance companies are adding the deceleration of speed awareness courses on thick and fast, so that line of saving will soon vanish.

insurance companies may ask but they are hoping youll be dumb enough to be that honest there is no way they can check you have been on a SAC because its not a conviction or endorsement, the SAC scheme will not give your private details to the insurance companies as its covered by DPA.

Did the course in February and has certainly slowed me down, got to be a good thing.
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
  • I did one back in june. Best thing i ever did! I learntna great deal, and you wont have to tell your insurance company that you got done! Yes itll be more expensive than the fine, but you wont have to tell your insurance co mpany, so your premiums wont go up next year, so itll work out cheaper in the long run.
  • I done the course back in August, when i phoned up to accept and pay for the driving course i was offered various different locations, times and dates but i couldnt tell you if they do it on a weekend. it cost me £80, the fine was £60 anyways so worth doing, didnt take the points or the fine. The ticket orignally come in my partners name, by the time it was all changed over and sent out to me and getting the appointment it was months after i actually got the fine (was doing 36 in a 30). The course was fine though, had a natter with some of the people there, the guy running it was a lovely man, very understanding and gave some great info. It is impossible to fail as long as you listen and make some kind of contribution
    Well worth it!
  • I did one for £80 and was offered a wide choice of locations which was perfect for me. Some very interesting stuff - I didn't know that if there were no speed signs but street lighting then the road was 30 (which was what I was done for!). I was the youngest there by about 15 years, most were 'mature' drivers or business people.

    Which ones?

It is a bit of a faff, but yes your husband has to return the s.172 notice as he will presumably be the registered keeper. They will then send you the same paperwork but in your name, you then return it duly completed.

Have you posted on the correct thread. :D

Complete no brainer - do the course.

A few hours in a room of your peers - I found it totally astonishing how many people in the room genuinely had no idea of dual carriageway speed limits (all speed limits for that matter)

It's a good eye opener into just how competent that driver behind, in front, to the side of you may be.

Yes, I was replying to the final sentence of the immediately previous post
We're further on, slightly. The ticket actually came to my husband, as it's his car, but I was driving and am happy to admit that. But he has to return the form to say it was me driving, and then I assume they'll send me a ticket in my name? Seems like a faff, to be honest!

Are you sure you've read the whole thread? :D;)
