Gas heating is fast and costs the same fairly cheap rate all day, so it's nice to have. However, you would be taking on another standing charge and annual servicing costs, so some savings will vanish. For a house with several people it's usually worth it, but for a smaller flat with maybe one or two people the standing charges and maintenance can represent a fair bit of your energy costs.

At this stage, I would try the current system and see how you like it. You may be very happy with it, or you might find it ineffective at heating and/or costly to use and decide that it needs improving anyway. So, initially I would always start with the make the most of what you have option before changing things, then if you choose to change things explore options from there. Installing a new gas supply and heating system would still not be the first option I'd explore from deciding you're unhappy with the existing heating, as there are cheaper simpler options, but it's one to consider if you find yourself needing to.
