Have a look outside for an inspection chamber cover.

Lift the cover up and have a look.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • thanks, will ask my dad to help when he comes round. not sure which would be the right cover, have 2 in back garden and one in front! lucky girl that i am my front garden one has lots of visits from the water board as i believe it is the main sewer one.

The water is clear because that's fresh water from the cistern/supply.

The blockage will be somewhere past the toilet, possibly in the soil pipe, but possibly further down.
Have any of your neighbours got the same problem?

As its slowing draining down to normal level its a good start, you could try some buckets of hot water maybe with a bottle of bleach in it. Hot water is far more effective at dissolving things than cold (including poo, fats, soaps etc). Its obviously draining past the blockage a little so hot water and bleach may widen that opening and the blockages 'grip' on the pipe. If you can get some decent flow going the the flow may erode the rest of the blockage pretty quickly.

Never keep flushing! Use a bucket of water and pour it is slowly. It may not be a soil pipe blockage. Ours started draining slowly and it was due to calcium build up in the U bend. Get your hand into it and see if it feels rough. I cleared it with a dose of one shot drain clear, £10 from B&Q.

You can clear all water from a toilet using a car washing sponge.

boil the kettle and pour it down, usually this does the trick.

Slow draining implies a buildup of toilet paper.

Have you noticed that one of these might have gone missing recently?

If so its in the U bend of the pan.

do you have ladies in the house? they tend to put things in the toilet that they havent eaten.
kids like to hide toys down there too.
    Get some gorm.
  • you can buy a set of rods from ebay dirt cheap and every house should have one in my view as they can easily save a call out (which costs a fortune)
