Hi
I am looking for a Netbook for about £200 as a Christmas present.
I know the basics with computers but there are so many to chose from, I am not sure where to get the best deal.
I have seen the Toshiba NB107 10.1in Netbook in Argos for £199 which seemed ok and I have also seen a PACKARD BELL Dot S Netbook, I have had a go on this one and it seemed very good, again £199 at Currys.
So do any of the wise people here have any suggestions or even bargains that may be out there at the moment.
The Netbook is for my better half, just used for general browsing and the odd typing of a letter.
I think a Netbook would be better for her than a Laptop, but the screen cannot be to small or my ears will hurt
Look forward to some good suggestions.
Martin

I recently bought one of these:
http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/ASUS_Eee_PC_1015PEM-BLK133S_1036106.html
Asus are quite good at netbooks and it has a decent spec - dual core processor and eight to 10 hour battery.
I don't think you'll do much better for the money.0 -
Please avoid Currys, Dixons or PCW-anything to do with DSG.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

We bought our Nephew one last year and to be honest would of been better paying a little extra and getting a Laptop. The Netbook won't do half the things he now needs to do and the screen is so small it's hard to use.
If you can afford it buy a cheap Laptop over a Netbook, but the Argos page on eBay is a good place to get cheaper machines.0 -
I've been using an Acer Aspire One for about 2 years and love it. I travel for work and use it for checking emails, keeping up with MSE (of course!), writing up reports and watching iplayer - all via a mobile dongle. Only complaint is battery life as it only lasts around an hour, but once you know this then you make sure you are near a plug if you need to do lots with it.
Can't be 100% sure, but I think I bought it from ebuyer.comSome days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -
Just in case you are still looking:

Thanks for the link Sagz.
I followed your advice from your first post and bought an Acer Aspire One D255E 10.1 inch Netbook (Intel Atom N455 Processor, 1 GB RAM , 250 GB HDD, BT 3.0, Windows 7 Starter 32-bit, (8 hours battery life) from Amazon.
It was ten pounds more but seemed to get very good reviews and I wanted to get an Acer as I have an Acer laptop so I will be used to how it works if problems crop up.
Thanks again for helping me decide, I had no idea how many options there were, in the end, I think you have to make your choice and stick to it.
