On my old XP laptop i used audacity to record audio from internet. From websites like youtube or spotify. Only record a few songs per month mainly for my daughter. That laptop is now dead :-(
On new windows 7 laptop i am unable to do this. I have audacity 1.3.13 beta installed. I messed around with the edit-preferences-devices-recordings settings with no sucess. This worked on the xp machine. Having a quick look at the audacity forum it states that with vista/windows 7 audacity is unable to record sounds that are playing on the laptop because that functionality is often absent/disabled in the sound card or sound card driver.
Has anyone found a way of recording audio from the internet using audacity on Wins7? If not what other software can you recommend. The end result needs to be in mp3 format.
Thanks in advance for any advice given.

I wanted to save some music off Youtube, so just searched for Youtube downloaders. Lots out there and lots are free too and all the ones I looked at will convert to mp3;)
Google is your friend:)0 -
No - it seems my nVidia card drivers deliberately exclude this functionality.Has anyone found a way of recording audio from the internet using audacity on Wins7? If not what other software can you recommend.
Have a look at Radio Downloader, which I use for the BBC Radio stations. Not sure if it does YouTube, etc...0 -
When I installed Audacity 1.3, I found it slowed my Win7 machine down really badly so I went back to 1.2.6
I can record from the soundcard no problem; set recording device to "rec playback (idt high def)"
1.2.6 isn't recommended for Win7, but I've only had a couple of crashes in well over a year.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.0 -
I'm shocked to say this is one the few internet utililities I paid money for. Applian Replay Music (there's a free trial).
http://www.applian.com/replay-music/index.php
I've upgraded to Replay Media Player as this also captures video.
PS. RadioDownloader is great for downloading BBC radio shows.0 -
Didn't know this was possible. It really is great.Change is here to stay0

I had this issue when I upgraded my XP desktop to Windows 7 - suddenly the 'stereo mix' option was no longer available in my sound card settings. Stereo mix allows the audio to not only be heard out the speakers but also recorded back into the sound card's input so you can record what you hear.
Windows 7 often loses with capability (deliberate no doubt) but I found the solution was to download an updated audio driver which replaced the standard Windows 7 audio driver and this new driver from the sound card maker had luckily included the 'stereo mix' option in my settings.
So you may be lucky - find out the soundcard manufacturer (could be something like Realtek or suchlike) and then try and find an updated driver from their website.
