Hi

My PC is playing up - virus methinks. I have followed all the advice on the excellent threads but things are still not 100%. Can someone take a look at the hijackthis log and advise

uninstalling spybot, adaware, google toolbar, yahoo toolbar, bing toolbar, nectar toolbar, and disabling defender might help

tick and fix the file missings/no files, and lines beginning with O16

most of those lines beginning with O4 can be disabled with msconfig (startup tab) too, leave avast and sidebar if you use it

disable media player network sharing unless you use it.

sorry the comment 'playing up' was probably not very descriptive of the problem but at 130am and 6 hours of trying to fix a PC that had lost its desktop and firefox was a bit painful.

I have followed your advice - removed everything except nectar toolbar as I use that.

Rebooted but am still getting an error message for messenger. Can someone advise. I presume I need to remove Windows live essentials?

Message is 'bad image' error

lost desktop? do you mean no icons, etc showing?? If so, bring up task manager, and in the File > Run type explorer.exe

this should bring it back, and you can go from there....

Whoops! thanks for that. Have now re-run and removed.

I still have the same Windows Live error though - but only on my kids log in (standard log in only)

It complains about this file
c:\program files\windows live\messenger\msimg32.dll

and says Windows live has stopped working.

Any ideas?
