Pull cord light switch - Aaaargh!

Is it really too difficult to buy something which works as it should, here in the UK in the 21st century?
We are having the bathroom renovated, and I bought a pull cord light swith from B & Q yesterday. We fitted it tonight, and after an hour, it ceases to function correctly. It clicks and then sticks, refusing to turn on the light for ten seconds before clicking again. Now it has stopped functioning:mad::mad::mad::mad:
Will someone please tell me if there is a "Toyota Landcruiser" light switch, one which will work from day one to eternity.

Sorry to take my time getting back to this, but no, I did not fit a weight or handle - why?
Oh yes, the switch now takes the best part of a dozen attempts to make it work - it goes into "half click" mode, midway between two settings.0 -
A remote possibility but we had a similar switch problem on a refurb. job and sent it back to the manufacturer.
It turned out from their reply that following testing in their lab. some "silica deposits" -or some phrase like that- had got into the switch and prevented it from working as it should.
Is it possible that something has found its way into your switch during your renovations?Forgotten but not gone.0 -
