old claim

I have found an old loan agreement from Abbey National for a 4 yr loan with PPI between may 94 and may 98 at (17.9%!!!). At the time both my partner and I were covered by our employers for redundancy & sickness so we have a valid claim - we think.
But as the loan is so old - is it worth claiming, or are we wasting out time?
all help appreciated!

I doubt your employer would have provided you with redundancy protection. If they were going to make you redundant they would not be able to get cover. On the other hand if it was not planning to make you redundant there would be no point in covering you.0

sorry that's not what I meant. I meant that if I was made redundant i got a decent pay off - public sector worker etc.
I'm not sure that i would have been able to claim anything from the PPI, especially sick pay.
I'm more concerned about the amount of time that has passed.0 -

That doesn't necessarily follow. There are guidelines but anything above the statutory minimum would be discretionary.I'm not sure that i would have been able to claim anything from the PPI, especially sick pay.I'm more concerned about the amount of time that has passed.
There are two problems - 1994 predates the GISC code - although Abbey was covered by the Building Societies' Ombudsman.
However, it is most unlikely that records survive after all this time.0 -

I posted copies of the loan agreement and requested a refund on Monday evening (2nd class recorded). Received a phone call from Santander complaints department tonight saying my complaint had been upheld and I would receive a quote within the next 8 weeks. Success!!0 -

Well I knew Santander were on the ball but this is pointing towards automatic upholds providing you have supporting paperwork

Wow, I wandered over to this thread from the DFW area, because I'm thinking about some old loans etc that I'm pretty sure we had PPI on. This has given me a kick up the a rse to do something now.
But, the problem is for one of them I simply don't have the old account number :-( Any ideas about how to proceed?
Thanks.0 -

Thanks.
If you still bank with the bank you arranged the loan through drop into your local branch and ask them or just phone the bank up and ask them. But they may want to start the complaint over the phone then and there so be prepared with you reasons etc.
You can start a complaint if you have your account number. Its easy to do yourself, so i would avoid a claims company.
You can do the complaint over the phone or via letter form, its up to you
to get you started, Look here for info and reasons for being miss-sold your ppi, Most ppi's were front loaded (loans) which is a big NO NO so go for it!
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#step2
Once you have had a read though and have your reasons. You will need to fill in a consumer complaints questionnaire. Which I would download, have a read though and familiarise yourself with the questionnaire and its layout. The questionnaire can be found here
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#step3
If it is a complaint for a Credit Card look here also (although almost the same info as above):
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-credit-card-insurance#step2
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-credit-card-insurance#step3
the main info you will need to complete the questionnaire is:
Loan account number/numbers OR CC account number/ numbers
start date
finish date
and your reasons
also have a read here for even more information:

Info for Lloyds:

Info for Egg:

Info for Barclays:
http://www.barclays.co.uk/news/PPIinformation/P1242592293882
then complete the form and send it off. If you ring your bank or CC company they may have a ppi complaint line and can start your complaint for you over the phone but id get as much info ready before phoning them. If you start a complaint over the phone, they will ask the reasons why you felt mis-sold so have all the information ready and be prepared.
simples, hope that may help, good luck:D:p Perfer et obdurai dolor hic tibi proderit olim
