I always end up offending the carrier bags scales too "unidentified object in bagging area" there's nowt in the bag yet!

I know exactly how you feel. It's like a big sign, flashing lights and studio audience appeared from nowhere with Bill Murray on mic commenting sarcastically about what a luddite you are.

I used to turn bright red and scuttle out with my tail between my legs. Now I just close my eyes and heave a sigh of resignation, praying that the till will shut up so that I can get out of there.

Jeez that makes depressing reading - how appalling that we could let folks sink so low in the 21st century - makes me ashamed to be part of the human race sometimes.

Greyqueen have manure-envy! It's one of the things i really miss from the croft - have tried all sorts of "improvers" from the diy stores and none work - now have chucks who are making a great job. Hopefully the crops will show better next year. I totally understand your ISP moment with your muck - I have that with my woodpile.

loving reading about you all and finding it a comfort to know I am not alone.. we have def started winter today.. sun and cold wind this morning so washing was out.. and so were kids (runny noses and all) to get fresh air into them before rain is due back tomorrow! We have no where to dry clothes except on clothes horse by stove so the minute I hear 'dry' on the weather report washing machine goes on at 7am and clothes horse & line full!..
I love seeing how you are all coping.. we are renting in a little village and thanks to the move Oh has a 3 min drive to work so we have slashed petrol costs by over 200 euro a month.(that and more is now gone on lads S&L therapy.) I think between that and the price increases on food/nappies and my now non-existant income we have just been hit really badly the last 3 weeks and the cash in the bank seems to have just disappeared..
On a better note..have enough food for feeding us for another week.. no therapy this week so 55euro saved.. and we finally get to go away for a one night stay in a castle hotel which I won a few months back.. they upgraded us to family room for free and it includes dinner in the restaurant and breakfast! Himself and myself are thinking..yah yummy food that we cant not afford.. and hot showers and hopefully long hot bath for kids that we cant afford at home.. and heating on all night without having to pay the bill!! It is only an hr up the road so we will being camper and have a picnic in a wood on the way there and back to gather some much needed 'free' firewood.
So far we have managed over 2 weeks heating house with the inlaws fallen wood from their garden ( thankfully this rented house is one main room downstairs and tiny upstairs really so the stove the landlord put in is great that way to heat up quickly ..it just needs to be kept going!..
I hope everyone is having as a relaxing Sunday early evening as I am ..in bed for some away from kids time with tea and bikkies.. life's little pleasures..

Tea and biccies, I get that mam2b. I know my duties and stresses for the day are over when I'm sat snuggled up dunking biscuits in a cuppa. Our taste buds have adapted to Aldi's biccies nicely, although we used basic ranges from the other stores before hand anyway... can't beat a 'chocolate flavoured' biscuit :rotfl:

I do miss hobnobs though but at over £1 a pack McVitties will have to go whistle.

Hello all :hello: lovely thread! talking of bicies I watched Hugh whatsit-something on Riverside cottage and he had 10 minute cookie recipe which I applied some artistic license too with good results! my version is as follows (couldnt actually remember the original but Im sure it will be on the website)
    100g butter
    100g sugar
    1 egg I think?
    200g
break up a chocolate bar I used lidls 39p bar
flour I used wholemeal original was plain

mix it all up put spoon of mix on a baking tray, bake for 10 mins and hey presto!

Am a keen lurker on this board and also the family and relationship board.

The news is worrying and the price increases of everything  .Today we put up a kitchen thermal/blackout blind which is helping to keep the kitchen warm already (bought for £4 from Wilko in the sale so happy about that!) and we also dug out our hall curtains to minimise draft from the front door.

I am grateful that winter has mostly been mild so far however my bill still doesnt seem to reflect the efforts we have been making to keep use down (I guess this is because the rates have gone up!)

I used to have an allotment but no time to keep it up so have been making a small effort with the garden but the last two years haven't gone very well - my only successful crop this year was a pumpkin plant which yeilded 3 massive delicious pumpkins! 1 for halloween 1 for us and 1 for a friend so managed to make pumpkin soup pumpkin pie and roasted pumpkin.

Could anyone tell me how to change my signature as its really out of date?

Earlier suggestions of soup and dessert at dinner are really good ones and I will start trying them! also Im useless with birds style custard but tesco's also do a tinned lowfat ready made custard 19p a tin which I love!.

Thanks for starting this thread Im really enjoying it! :T
:j Where there is a will there is a way - there is a way and I will find it :j

I've just sat here and read all the posts and hope to join in. I have to say that I regularly use my dryer I just can't cope with the washing otherwise and over the weekend it's on 9hrs a day:eek::eek: but with a houseful of men I have tons of washing.

I do cook from scratch try to take advantage of gliches and use vouchers whenever possible. I don't seem able to stretch a chicken but can stretch 2 chickens to feed us all and make a soup with possibly some chick for sarnies for lunches.
Starting to save £2 coins again, but it is a struggle:rotfl:Not doing very well keep spending them
