I'm with them, really cheap and great service. Laughing at the "old boy" style on the allotment GQ - I wonder how many centuries it took for the old boys to realise that was the easiest way to do it ! :D
Preparedathome - I find there's a huge gulf between reading stuff on here - and actually DOING it. Is easy to do the first bit, but the second was a big step for me. Mainly in the rows we had because he was (is) so set in his ways!!
What I did was announce a week-long "experiment", and for that week I stuck to OS cheap food, but I pulled all the stops out to make him feel filled up and happy. ;) Then told him how much we'd saved in food - and as always, the idea of money saved made his eyes light up and he was hooked :D
The two of us, 6 years ago when I last worked, spent £60/70 a week in Tescos on food/cleaning stuff.:eek: Now we eat healthier and well on £30 plus a monthly top-up of meat from Costco. And now I've got a store cupboard, something I never had before !
  • I went shopping in Asda at the weekend and got a voucher for £5 off a £40 shop i dont live near Asda and i wont be going to claim the voucher so i wondered if anyone wanted it. I will send you the receipt and the voucher and you have to do a price comparison and then you get emailed the voucher. It seems a shame to waste it.

In box me with your address if you want it and i will send it out to you today.

    Morning :)

That throw over the archway really worked last night. No central heating at all in the house. We did use the electric radiator and fire for a few minutes every now and then to take the chill off the living room and when we went in the shower (it's nice and clean now) and a bit before bed. The children had their beds warmed with hotwater bottles and I did put the timer on for the heating to warm the house for an hour this morning.

I have dug out my electricity monitor and set it with the new higher prices for electric. The electric fire costs 17p an hour and the radiator 14p an hour. Considering that they aren't on for more than 5-10 mins every hour or so I can live with that. I just am so desperate to get my gas arrears paid off from last year and last month we used more than our direct debit was. I'm really scared about the gas and so want to go onto prepay but I know that would cost us even more because of the higher tarriffs.

Last night I made a draught excluder! I cannot sew for toffee but I persevered and it doesn't look too offensive! Old curtains, goldy in colour cut up and sewn with pink cotton as all I had, filled with a very worn and flat pillow. It really does the trick and will do until I can pay for a proper attachment to stop the draughts. Quite pleased.

As I sit I'm using 2p electric an hour. It's amazing how much electric children and husbands use!

I didn't spot this new thread when I posted this morning, so I'm re-posting it here.

    Good Morning Everyone :)

Congratulations ftm and Happy Birthday Fern :) Geeks will rule the world, so she has a head start.

First, many thanks for all the congratulations on my win. It was a huge surprise and completely unexpected. My sister asked what I would have done if I had won the £75,000 prize. I said "Faint" and we could both picture the poor woman on the other end of the phone asking if I was ok.

I spent the weekend at my lovely parents in law getting fed food I didn't have to shop for or cook or wash up after. I did cook Sunday Lunch, but that's normal as my MIL is busy in church on Sundays. Then my DH persuaded me to go and do some shopping and to buy myself something with the winnings. So I raided the new HobbyCraft and brought wool to knit myself something. Then to Accessorise for a new hat as my ears were cold. It is very cute and actually suits me which makes a change. Next DH dragged my semi comatosed body around shoe shops (I'm still not sleeping properly :( ). I got a lovely pair of brown lace up boots and found out at the till that they were having a 20% off boots event that day, so I saved £16. I also have a winter coat that fits as my DMIL shortened the coat I got for £5 in a charity shop. She is quite jealous of it and wants me to keep an eye out for a similar one for her.
Today I have to try and find some energy from somewhere as I have my assessment for the Active Lifestyle Scheme. It's a GP referal thing that means I get support and fitness sessions at a reduced rate for 6 months. Hopefully it means I get into the habit of going to the gym or find something else that suits me, as I hate exercise with a passion. Wish me luck please, I think I might need it. DH is pitying the poor instructor as he thinks I'm going to end up crying at some point.

Take care everyone. I'll let you know later if the instructor survives ;)

Just saw that Doris, in the Telegraph. All that has been happening is the markets have been propped up so something will have to give.

Wasn't it the Mayans who predicted the end of the world in 2012? Whilst I dont anticipate that will happen I do believe that the world will change as we know it. In what form I am not sure yet.

Funny thing is I'm not freaked out by the word recession any more. It's already dire for me. It's just a label in my world. Mind you I'm not too bright when it comes to financial affairs.

I couldn't bare to press play on the video. Did I miss much from Mr Osbourne?

I didnt either fuddle. I canny stand his smug coupon. I just think they are so divorced from the reality of day to day life for most of the country that they're a joke. And that applies all the way up through europe as well.

Tea???? Drink vodka more like :D

The problem is we have little control over the decisions that are made on the world stage (apart from voting) so all we can do is be as prepared as possible.

I wanted to start going off grid slightly more and become less reliant on the main stream for things.
