    Hello Everyone :)

Sorry I've been MIA for a few days. I have been reading and cheering everyone on, brownies honour :D (I was quietly encouraged to leave the Guides after deciding I was an atheist and not wanting to swear allegiance to any god)

Penny What fantastic news about the car. Well done :T

Byatt I hope your daughter has a great holiday :)

gardenia101 That sounds like one of our holidays. I remember taking the monsters (DS1 and DS2) to Bournemouth when they were little and them building sandcastles while wearing sandals, swimming trunks, vests, t-shirts, jumpers, coats and hats. That's one reason I over pack, I never know what the weather is going to throw at us.

    (((((((((((((((((((((kidcat)))))))))))))))))))))))

I spent most of Tuesday out and about and I think I overdid it and woke up my Black Dog again unfortunately. I'm ok in the house, but going out alone is proving difficult. The date I had with DH on Tuesay night was worth it. I could get used to people bringing me cocktails while I watch films.
I managed to get to Mr T's last night, but I must of looked like a mad woman talking to myself to keep myself calm enough to get around the store. Oh well, it will pass. I must get back to the gym soon and see if that helps. I just have a block about it at the mo. Having people over to eat and my baking urges being strong aren't helping at all. Although the Rhubarb Bakewell was more than worth whatever weight gain it has caused ;)

Today's plan is to get the bedding washed and dried. Hopefully I have some vinegar left to help shift that teenage boy smell that seems to linger on their sheets. DH is working in Oxford today so that should add to the coffers a little. Time and a half makes it worth working weekends.

Wish me luck, I'm going to go and strip the beds. Send GQ's nurse in with a gas mask and some smelling salts if you don't hear from me in the next 24 hours.

    Love to all xxxxxxxxxxxx

Ive got a Mr S shop coming later and as we've recently found that OH has a wheat allergy, Ive purchased about £15 of stuff for him, but some of the items are cupboard stuff which will keep and some sweet snacks that he'll appreciate. The shop was quite dear for us coming in at £85 after vouchers and discounts, but it did include quite a few meals for us all. The wheat free items are so expensive! Does anyone have any cheap options? With OH it blows him tummy out and makes him feel very sluggish and yuk!

Managed to put £500 into the ISA account yesterday OH has with Britannia and the rest will be put into an account and we try and keep a couple of hundred at home for emergencies.

Does anyone know of any good passbook savings accounts with a half decent rate?

Anyway, hope you're all doing ok.

    LOL

I also have a wheat allergy , I have found it just easier to not eat anything that contains it or rather anything that contains a lot of it ( a lot of stuff may have traces of it ) ie no bread , pasta , cakes pastry etc . Its been surprisingly easy and I feel so much better for it . My OH is type 2 diabetic so he avoids carbs which makes it much easier for me .
Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later

Penny - if it's a proper wheat allergy it'll be no good but many people who have a wheat intolerance find spelt a good alternative. It's an ancient wheat that hasn't been messed about in the same way and although it is more expensive than ordinary flour it's cheaper than the gluten free products and it does make really tasty bread and great nutty pastry (although very collapsy!) If it's a proper allergy the dove's farm flours are good although you never get quite the same result and the bread recipe on the back of the pack (can't just sub in a normal recipe) has some blooming weird ingredients and is a little sweet for me. It is however more moist than the bought gluten free bread. The gluten free plain flour makes a really good carrot cake where you can't tell the difference. Check things like stock cubes/powder and jars/bottles, even some baked beans have traces of wheat. I'm fairly sure there is a thread on the OS board about gluten/wheat free cooking which might have some good recipes on. The coelliac society might have a list of 'safe' products to help wit he packet checking. I'm not wheat/gluten free myself but I did used to run a tea room where we always had a good selection of things available that were suitable for various exclusionary diets so I do have some experience (and some recipes marked in my many cook books) so do shout if you need anything.

I'm avoiding wheat too. Shop GF stuff is usually vile, and best just avoided. I'm now using rice noodles from Mr T instead of pasta even for non-oriental meals, as I find they are nicer. Ald! do rice cakes, nice and thin, so less like eating polystyrene. Not keen on the GF breads, you can get a nice 'mix' which you can do in a bread machine (Hale and Hearty) but it's about £3 a pop, and the loaf is tiny. I'm eating a lot of rice and jacket potatoes. I've also got a sushi 'habit' now :P Breakfast cereals are more of a problem, I like Mesa Sunrise, but again £3 a box not cheap. I've just found somewhere online that does a buckwheat cereal - I'm about to place an order with them, so fingers crossed that will be nice.

I have mastered a number of GF cakes now, which we are selling in the market, so if you want cake recipes give me a shout?

Blummin' heck. U lot can't half talk - I've been away for 6 days and it's going to take me at least a week to catch up.

Have skimmed a few posts but am not "up to speed" with everyone so I hope you are all relatively well and safe and will forgive me if I have missed anything, in the meantime I am sending positive thoughts and hugs to all in need.

I am so glad to see that PP had such a good result with the awful car man. Way to go! Congratulations on having the courage and conviction to see it through, you have my heartfelt admiration. he probably relies on people not having the strength to fight back to get away with it.

Now we are back from our hollies, I really need to get started on some proper gardening. It's just been sooooo cold and wet I've hardly anything growing yet - I suppose everyone else is the same. I think I'm going to have to buy some plug plants for my veggies this year because I'm so late with everything. Has anyone any tips on what veggies, if anything, I can still get going from seed this late? Any advice would be gratefully received :):)

Aw kidcat what a nightmare with your OH's pay, will he get it back?
I hope something gets sorted out for your son, was it the ed psych's report that made it come back inconclusive?

AA sorry to hear about the lost job :( hope find something soon.

Well i half functoning radiators and hot water :T so shower for me tonight:D

PP i find i can tolerate bread made with ordinary plain flour rather strong white flour.; I don't go anywhere near whole-wheat i keel over when i literally have one bite of that stuff. Would he able able to get any food on prescription? Oh and join the glutafin website, i sent free samples to me at lease once a month. I say samples last time it was four large buns!
In the local Asian shop near me they sell rice noodles, rice past, corn pasta, its about 79p for 500g. so could be worth looking them as well.

    maradartha here's some sweeties

Just had some promising news off the landlady, she's agreed to put a new bathroom in upstairs and sort out the damp falling apart one downstairs. Only thing is we have to do the work, which is fine as we know the it won't be bodged up. So chuffed :D

Thank smiley i'll have a look in boots for them :)

I thought I was used to big appetites, OH had one when he was a builder and DS who lives with us at the mo used to have one before he got an office job (now he is careful what he eats as he is a big lad) but DGS has the most amazing appetite  2 years old and hoovers up everything. His step brother was always very picky cos his size zero Mum only eats takewaways , god knows how she keeps slim! So Dd said she would try not to let Dgs be like him. Yetserday he had his tea then when DS and I were sat on the couch eating ours and having quality time, he slid up and plonked his self between us giving us a nudge on the arm with a huge grin on his face. Much fried rice and a drop of curry sauce later he laughed and went off to play :rotfl: That was a bit of a treat - for all 3 of us - but he will happily empty the fruit bowl and the currant tin and actually got his Mummy up at 4 am last week for breakfast, then promptly fell back to sleep for a few hours.

DS's girly got a new job and started 1st of May, good pay and was learning the ropes fast then... Friday 9 am she was made redundant and was home by 10 - how disgusting is that. They will never get their new rented house at this rate, its such a shame.
