Absolute madness and very scary
The trouble with that is if they are signed into a six month tenancy they can't just give it up, added to the new rules adding rental late payment or defaults to be added to a credit file, it would be stupid for anyone under 25 to consider leaving home at the risk of their credit rating being destroyed at such a young age. Very sad indeed.
It limits their job mobility too.0 -
That's it! I'm retiring to a hole in the ground until all the people who are demanding money go away!
So far this month we have had a new boiler, hole in the roof fixed, part of our garden wall rebuilt (conservation area), my car being in the garage on and off all month, OH's car has just had its MOT (£1500) and now OH has said yes to buying a car that a friend of ours is going to sell. Grand bill (not including normal expenditure) is going to be £20K (IF we can sell my car for £4k) Roll on May!
Anyone know of any paid stuff you can do online of an evening whilst the kids are in bed. Spending over half our gross annual income in one month is not good....0 -
Debby - there are survey sites but they take a while to get anywhere, they often pay in voucher codes for places like amazon.0

Thanks kidcat, I used to do the survey things years ago when I first joined MSE but gave it up as a bad job when I never fitted their target market and only got entered in those that entered you in a prize draw rather than paying out - needless to say despite doing it faithfully for well over a year I never won anything! Will give it another try though just in case things have moved on in the last few years. Nothing ventured nothing gained;)0

That's what happened to DD and her BF. She was part time, and he was made redundant, then her contract ended too. Because they were under 24 the council dragged their heels and told them they'd have to wait to be thrown out of the flat they were renting before they'd do anything. (I was on the line to loose my hefty deposit on their rental too ) In the end we just went and rescued them and dragged them back to Wales. They spent a year sleeping on our sofa, then six months in a damp caravan, and finally got a flat in town through a housing assoc. thank God. I'm sure if they'd still been in London they would not have had any 'points' in their favour. Lewisham council said when they were actually homeless, having been evicted, they MAY consider they warranted a place in a homless hostel, but that they wouldn't guarantee they could be placed together. I suspect if push came to shove they would have actually told them that non-payment of rent meant they were voluntarily homeless
I feel really sorry for the youngsters, I really do, because I simply cannot see how all this gloom is going to play out in a good way for them? I suspect there will be a huge underclass of drifters, sofa surfers, rought sleepers and squatters, and all the 'bad' stuff that goes along with being homeless will increase.

I'd heard about the annual weed trick also, but can see nothing for the ground elder. I *know* you can eat it, but there's only so much I can hide in soup - even the chucks are sick of it! Roll on spring!!!
My eldest returned home at 24 after being away at uni for 8 years - just couldn't get a job and HB wouldn't pay for his tiny one bed flatlet. He has started his own business here and is doing well, but is across the country from his friends/his social life. Also, of course, it only works if young people have family they can return to - it's getting harder and harder to be a young person alone in the world. It's just so hard to get a start in adult life

Ginnyknit dried onions are wonderful. I gave my Sil some and he puts them in everything, he says they are the best thing since sliced bread
I buy the onions by the sack at about£2.99 for 10kg sometimes 15kg for that price. I dice and dry them a full load at a time till the sack is done.

Wish I could give you ten "Thanks" for that post Mar., can you tell I agree?
We are entrusting our lives and that of our family's to a bunch of people who've never had to do a hard days graft in their lives and know nothing of living in the real world. Most of them are public school educated, then top universities, and straight into politics.
Coalition......coal, isn't that a fossil fuel?
Mind you - none of 'em are much cop, whichever party they belong to
Party....isn't that having a good time?
Off to scrub a few baby's toys in diluted bleach, I bought them for my grandaughter in the CS today and will keep them here for when they all visit.
We're a little too far away from Harrods to buy them there.Normal people worry me.0
