Just flying in to give huge hugs to all those who need them - I've been really busy so not had time to post but have been saddened to read of the tough times some of you are going through.
Re naughty dogs - a couple of weeks ago Bruno shredded a quilt on my bed. Last night I foolishly left a bag of interfacing and bias binding on the chair then went to use the bathroom. Came back downstairs to find shredded interfacing and bias binding ...... it's a bl**dy good job I adore him or he'd be up the creek ......
I think they really enjoy the texture of shredding some things?
Mine like shredding washing up sponges... Sometimes clean ones fall out of the cupboard and I don't notice until it's too late. They also really like the fibre filling from duvets. I've made them a couple of beds out of old duvets, and woe betide me if I short cut and don't stitch the edges. Cardboard boxes are popular too.... sigh. They raid the recycling bin for those.

I have a kingsize goose down duvet and I can fit the summer half in my 4.5kg machine. The thicker half doesn't go in, but when I collected it and a synthetic double from the cleaners it was in a bag less than half the size... I'm pretty sure I would fit in a 9kg machine even if it wouldn't fit in a 7.5kg. The double, however, wouldn't. It might be worth shopping around carefully for the replacement.0

I wash my quilts in the bath. I fill it up then add some bubble bath and get in and tread like grape pressing for a while. I get out and let the water out and refill. If it needs it I will add bleach at this stage and leave to soak a little, I use a wooden spoon to mix in the bleach. Then I drain again and rinse a couple of times or I run the shower on cold turning the duvet a few times. Fold it a couple of times and it is then left to drain until I can lift it into a basket to hang outside. When it has drained and dried enough I can fit it in my dryer to finish off. A windy day is helpful.0

That's how I do mine grandma247 - I also have two nearly room-size rag rugs (bought 15 years ago from Ikea!) that I have to do in the bath as there's absolutely no way they will fit in any machine, and I'm not paying the dry cleaners!
For duvets I am now switching to 4.5 tog doubles, cheapo from argos or supermarkets/poundstretcher etc. They go in the machine easily, you can pile three or four on the bed if you want, and they dry in a day.
Edit: I agree Katieowl, how ridiculous that it's cheaper to dispose of something than clean it. Clearly OS isn't spreading fast enough!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Having a proper 'birding' start to the day here. Mistle Thrush, Wagtails, the Pheasants, a Wren and then the Heron flew over. Oh, and a Wood Pigeon the size of a cat! The only regular I have not seen this morning is the Tree Creeper. This is the first nice sunny morning we have had since we got here.
DH is 'Man Pottering' I can feel an urge to go to the caravan scrapyard coming on. We neeeed an essential bit of trim apparently , still I can't complain he is being OS. Come to think of it I used to quite like trawling through the scrapyard for bits for our banger. Those were the days when they weren't all electrics and were fixable by ordinary people!:)Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -

Got up early as Dd and co needed to borrow the car to view a house but the landlord cancelled when they got there  It really is a landlords market, some of the houses she has viewed have been unbelievably bad. One had water marks in living room where the toilet upstairs had leaked all down the walls and floor  Another had only a hip bath, most are one bedroom and a shoebox.
Just glooping the floors and generally getting down to housework, taking my frustrations out on the mop. Cooked loads of meals for the freezer, just have 'tater hash' left to make and I can relax. Much easier now I have my de-hydrated veg on hand. Going to try onions next as I hate storing them ready chopped in the fridge.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Agree with everyone on the food costs rising - we now get our big shop from Aldi (have done for a few years now) and top up with certain brands from Morrisons cos it's 5 mins walk from home. Also use a local farm shop for some seasonal stuff if its cheaper than Aldi - but a lot of our local aldi stuff is also grown locally so its a win/win situation.
Hadn't heard the HB rumour about under 25s - what are they supposed to do then, no jobs, no benefits? Was planning on my two leaving by 18 and never returning (I already have plans drawn up to turn ds's room into a craft room/study and he is only 5!) Am off to re-plan their futures:pMortgage £119,533 going down slowly

Not sure I can be patient for that long. I've got some three week salad leaves that I'm keen to get started. Will need to think about insulation.
Re seed sowing times, I heard a good tip from Bob Flowerdew which was to wait until the annual weeds are germinating as this tells you the soil temp is high enough.
I'd forgotten that trick. Mind you I've so many weeds I can't see the annuals for the brambles. Got bramble killing spray from garden centre yesterday. Ashamed as it breaks with my green principlesBut they're out of control and I can't lift the strimmer yet.
kidcat I hope you are feeling a bit better today.
VJsmum- sending motivation and mobilisation vibes for your Dad.
Things are tougher, but at least its Friday and we all have a weekend to look forward to :j

It seems that they will be expected to stay at home or with family and friends. I wonder what will happen if a single person under 25 in work and renting gets made redundant . . . seems like they will be expected to give their tenancy up and move back home?
Absolute madness and very scary:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls
