Yes there are a fair few here who could make that amount of money go a very long way, and I'm sure an awful lot who do not have anything like that amount to live on. Where is Gailey today I wonder (or did I miss her?)
Byatt - step away from the bread pudding!
There was a thread on one of the forums here about the same family. It seems media highlighting of the extremes takes away from the rest of people who are managing on much less and enables the govt to get public opinion on their side whilst vilifying all those on any kind of benefit. The people in the programme it seems are not worried about how they look to everyone else whereas the people most affected by reductions in benefits are the ones that do worry and make themselves ill with the worry and stress.
I didn't have that kind of income even when both ex and I were working full time!
Why not target peole who are on such high benefits and work towards reducing them and getting them into work where possible.
I will step away from the bread pudding just after this last slice.0 -
thanks guys
we are applying for that atm, but it doesnt sound very positive the guy at the council said they dont hand that out very often
i tried looking for somewhere else to live, but i cannot find a property anywhere for the amount the council says they will pay. im a bit  about it really, ive never lived in a area thats been this bad for schools and money0 -
Mrs VP, wonderful news
Mardatha, not so good news in fact downright scary and thats all Im going to say because I could well rant on for several hours.:mad:
Did a big shop at Mr M and got a few whoopsies. I really dont think I have paid full price for cheese in yonks - where did that word come from.. the 70's?? Home made salsa, fajitas (bought the wraps) and hm wedges for tea and it was yummy. Filled the oven again to cook chicken, roasties and chargrilled some peppers. Begrudge putting oven on for just one thing nowadays. Am having to follow Ds round switching things off but he will get there in the end.Clearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0 -
Well done Mr VP.

Morning All
Hope everyone is staying warm and prepared for the snow (although by the looks of it it wont be around for long where I am!)
I have highlighted the above because I used to work as a team leader for a group that aught people how to manage their money as well as sort out their debts until ironically the funding dired up.
Being honest for the majority of the people I saw they were worse off in employment at the time, frequently I would see a single parent with 4 kids who had all of their rent and council tax paid and then got over £1000 in their hand to spend every four weeks (as well as free nursery places and milk tokens etc). For them they didnt have the skills to get a job that would pay that well, nor in many cases the educational attainment to go back to learn how to get those new skills. Its a vicious circle and one which has to be broken at some point, but I have to admit it was frustrating sometimes to look at people who were taking home more than I was and were struggling to pay the bill from the Next directory!!
My month has been expensive so far, car went in for its MOT and will come back with a rather large bill for a new wheel bearing, brakes and repairing an ABS sensor. The only positive side is that my mechanic is my next door neighbour and I managed to give him some advice on not using a dealership to test and clear the CPU on the cars instead giving him the name of someone who is mobile and does my cars for half the price! So spread a bit of positivity out of it all.
Hugs to all that need them, stay warm and safe xFree/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -
ETA Byatt you will look like a bread pudding at this rate LOL! xxMeant to ask, Kate - do Bookers put all their whoopsies in one place in the store, or do you have to hunt for them?
They tend to huddle them together in the sections. Carmarthen has a whole load on trollies behind the checkout (in the freezer section) where they stick the boxes of crisps and catering stuff, but they have a whoopsie section in the chiller room too. The veg and meat tend to be marked down where they are displayed. Aber had a set of shelves stacked by the entrance with dry goods. A trolley in the chiller room, but I didn't see any meat yesterday - I assume it's the same, and would be on the shelf? Oh yeah and if you check out another branch, they pop upstairs/out back and register your card there too, so you can use that branch too...

The ladies in here would make a far far better govt than this shower of out-of-touch uncaring halfwits we have in power. At this rate things will go back full circle to Dickens day.
I totally agree that they want people on benefits to be public enemy number 1 - it takes the eye off them and lets them get away with more underhand sneaky goings-on. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if somebody had a wee quiet word with the BBC to make sure the benefits family were "suitable" and not too deserving.
This lot seem to think that what they say IS, so if they say tomorrow that black is now white, then it will be
What angers me most is the cretins (look in the Arms and Discussion forums lol) whose spite and envy relishes other people's hard luck and who seem to gloat. They, like the Tories, should remember that anybody can lose a job and anybody can hit hard times.
Maryb, I will go and look for that book, ty.0 -
My hoover has gone kaput. I washed the filter, emptied it, cleaned the brushes and it still smells of burning when I switch it on. So I have reserved another one from Argos and will pick it up tomorrow. I would have loved another dyson but don't have the money so I am getting a Vax, at half-price (and about a quarter of the price of a dyson).
Please forgive a long time lurker.
Smileyt - I believe Dyson offer a service call - an engineer comes to your house, services your dyson, replaces parts that are necessary and leaves you with an almost brand new vacuum. I think it is about £50, so a new dyson for less than the price of a new one. It's almost like a lifetime guarantee (at a cost). If you haven't already got your new one, it may be worthwhile looking at that.

Government here is coming up with a new plan of cutbacks...
European govrn. has decided that our budget deficit must be cut back to under 3%.. and in order to comply the country has to make further cuts of 10 million euro by 2013. this on top of the 8 they are doing now already.
Now there is talk of raising sales tax from 19% up to 21% !!!!!
That scares the living daylights out of me.....
they also want to raise the cost of health insurance further.. which has already gone up by 220 euro a year... so now they will increase it further.. and you'll have to pay a 2,50 fee everytime you pick up medicines..
it is all still in the talks stage, but I get heart palpitations just thinking about it.. how will we manage? With two teenagers and a 7 yr old.. we have to eat!! .. geesh..0
