Oh, what a brilliant idea! I have used bags I got on sale from a SM but need some more so that's ideal. I also got loads of cheap pots from the recycling centre, aka the tip!

Green eyed monster has just come out  Our tip does not let us have anything, they used to let you buy stuff but now it's council run you can't. It is such a shame as I often see some fab things.

Yes, the blue shopping bags, I seem to remember someone used Tesco wine carriers last year too. Our b&m sell garden bags for growing too, I think they were about two pounds for two.

Actually you've reminded me I've got loads of bags for life type things in the garage. I'm sure they would do. I guess the biggest expense is going to be the compost though - no earth accessible in my garden to use.
    You're all geniuses! :D

LBees - OH and I once helped a mate move back from London to Alnwick, and we had a great weekend up there. The beaches are fab, and we walked I think to Dunstanburgh castle, it was wonderful - and best of all, my favorite bird, Eider duck, on the sea. A lovely area we will go back to for a long time when we do our 'Grand tour' of the UK once we finally retire.

Let me know when you're up my way next time...:). Yes, I love it up here though I envy others their place of settling too. E.g. Scotland is stunning as are parts "dawn souf" (as it sounds to me :rotfl:)

I REALLY envy those in southern Britain who get long warm summers (s'not FAIR...has big tantrum....), and can get the train to Europe. The train.....! wowee! Youse lot don't know you're born :rotfl:

Ooooh I LOVE Northumberland! The beaches are beautiful and (usually) quite empty (Bamburgh is particularly gorgeous), the castles, Lindisfarne, Hadrians Wall........
I want to go there NOW...beam me up Scotty!

    Shhhhhhhhh! It's a secret....don't let everyone know...or they'll all want to come....:rotfl:

V glad you like it here though. It takes a special kind of person to enjoy our particular kind of wildness and lack of "facilities", methinks :T

We went to Newcastle for a bargain break year before last and drove along the Northumberland coast -WoW :T and loads of lighthouses to visit. The people were lovely, the markets cheap altogether a favourite destination. Final day we went to the Angel of the North and ticked another thing off our bucket list. I was really impressed by the whole trip. Only flaw was we searched for a chemist to buy sanitary towels and Oh threw the rubbish in a bin later in the day - wrong bag, guess what he binned :rotfl: Even the weather was fab, hot sunshine in September/October.

You hit THAT week, did you. Well done :rotfl:

:rotfl:I guess the grass is always greener... when we were in London, 20 mins from the centre by train, we hated it. I know loads of people who thought we were dead lucky. But we rarely took advantage as travelling anywhere was terrible.

I know we are very lucky to be where we are now - the view of the sea from our garden is stunning, and the pace of life is great. But I know a lot of local people who never take advantage of the local natural attractions, and think it's only an improvement if to make our town like any other high street in the country.

The great thing about the UK is it's diversity - we rarely if ever holiday abroad, there is just so much to see here.

And yes, when we start the grand tour in a camper, we will get to see all the fab places you lucky peeps live in!
Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures

  • I know. I was over your way last week and popped into the co-op. I think the prices are worse there too. My MIL has taken to coming here weekly for her shopping to avoid that Co-op.

Let me know next time you're over here and you can pop up for a coffee. x

It's dreadful here, both price-wise and in what's available. I'm working a day a week down the road at the mo, so shopping in the smaller Tesco there. Would love to meet for coffee next time i'm up - will pm you once I know - it isn't too often at the minute though.
