Hotel auction website??

I have heard lots about hotels accepting prices for hotel rooms well below what is offered on other websites when they have lots of availability. Has anyone done this before? If so, what steps did you take to get a good deal?

Does anyone know of any website that might help with this such as a hotel auction/bidding website?

Yes, I have seen that but I really want to know which hotel I am booking- my understanding is Priceline allows to choose an area only.
It looks good but not ideal for me.

I used to visit a US site that had hotels, cruises, flights all on auction. I can't remember the name of it now but it couldn't have been much cop as I stopped visiting.

    Added
Still had it in my bookmarks - www.skyauction.com I did say I stopped visiting so it's probably not much use but have a look.

    Use this website http://www.betterbidding.com/

In association with PriceLine and Hotwire, it helps you massively narrow down the hotel you are actually bidding on, additionally it also has a calendar that shows what others have paid for rooms through the sites - I used it for my last two trips to the US.

    You're forgiven this time ;)

(Actually I felt a little guilty after i had posted when I saw you were relative newcomer - I'm not usually so angsty - it just took me ages to find teh bookmark as it wasn't where I thought i.e. my Auctions folder then it wasn't in my Travel folder so ended up going through the whole darn lot to get it. ) Had a look round again myself yesterday and it is a bit carp isn't it?

Agree, it is very useful for priceline & hotwire but OP is looking for an auction site with named hotels. He'd still not know for sure that the offer he got was the same hotel as someone reported on betterbiddding.
