Deals on new, nearly-new or used cars?
Hi, I’ve searched the site and am a little surprised I couldn’t see any tips for buying cheap cars! Given that it’s such a major purchase there must be loads of ways to find deals on new, nearly-new or used cars (and tips on getting good car finance deals).
I’m spending a fortune on fuel, tax and insurance for my car but mainly do little 2 or 3 mile journeys. It may be cheaper to get a new, cheaper car and use the money saved to pay the finance.
Any advice?
thanks,

I doubt you will be able to recoup the 'cost to change' through the savings you would make on tax, insurance, etc. You would make bigger savings keeping the existing car and buying a bike to cycle those short distances.0

Yes, it depends on what deposit I put down of course but realistically savings may pay up to half the finance.
I do use a bike btw and it saves a lot, but two miles here, two miles there on a bike is a little too much for young children.0 -
Say you put down 3k as a deposit then another 3k on finance. You would have to recover the 6k plus the interest charge before you 'save' any money compared to your current situation.0

Yes, and that's exactly the sort of information I'm after! Personally, I wouldn't buy a VW but very interesting nonetheless.
