Well I am fortunate enough to have no experience of such hardships, but I am glad this forum exists, because it providee a very real lifelinr for peeps who would otherwise have no support and no advice on day to day matters, which are the ones that can really break the camel's back.

I never cease to marvel at the goodness of the peeps in here, always ready to offer not just words of comfort, but concrete help in how to make that last tenner stretch further.

I hope things get sorted out soon, sammy_kaye18!
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
  • A really cheap meal is savoury pancakes:
Make a batch of pancake/yorkshire pud batter (it's the same stuff: equal volumes of eggs, milk and flour, beaten together.)
Leave it to stand for at least 1 hour to let all the bubbles out (bubbles = holes in your pancake!)
Root around in the fridge for veggies - about a handful per pancake.
Bits of chicken, bacon, sausage etc. are a bonus! - chop 'em small.
Fry findings in frying pan & get it really hot (or the pancake will stick)
Add a pinch of herbs if you've got 'em.
Pour about 3 tablespoonsful of batter into the hot frying pan, and tip it in all directions to coat the bottom.
Sprinkle a bit of grated cheese over, if you've got it.
Leave it to cook for 2 mins or so (until it's set all the way through.)
Don't bother turning it over, just dish it up.

Last night I had bacon, onion, pinch of herbs and grated cheddar. Very nice!
Froz peas especially good, sweetcorn okay but just add when you add the batter, don't fry beforehand or it'll get too tough.

Extra batter will keep in the fridge for a few days, or you can drizzle with honey/sugar + lemon/chopped fruit for pud.

    Good luck! ::Hugs::

Hi Sammy, really sorry to hear of the predicatment... if I lived anywhere near by I'd try ad help out on the shopping front a bit btu I'm in London :o

Just this that I'm not sure will help or not... I't's only a pound-odd saving, but that's a treat of a few packs of value biscuits..

Mince 800g - £2.96 If you have a local butcher, you might get this cheaper. Ours does 99p per lb meat. the 800g would cost under £2 in my local butchers

    Hello sammy_kaye18,
Had just come across your posts and thought at once 'Freecycle' and LETS, so I'm glad to see other msers have put you onto them as well.
You'll need to go through BT Yahoo, to register with your local, or any, Freecycle group, but you'll be amazed at what comes up. Think this takes 24 hours, but please do it.
And don't be surprised if you find yourself offering things, too, even if you think you have absolutely nothing that anyone would want.
The other BIG THING you must do, is look in the Tesco Misprice thread on this site. Go to Chat Forums>Bargain Buys, Sassy Shopping etc>Grabbit Quick>Tesco Misprices Thread 7(there's also a Tesco Misprice Discussion thread)and learn about misprices, thus retaining the goods free and having your payment refunded.
Also make sure you use Clubcard points on deals, not in the store, and learn how to maximise them(they now include the Youth Hostels Association, which means you'll have cheap breaks for a quarter the advertised fee. I've been a Life Member for years and recommend you lose all out-of-date notions of what they are like)
I help at a local charity and recommend ours as being unrapacious, compared with too many nowadays. I know a Charity shop directed for local people is better than Oxfam etc. Better still, if you can volunteer, even for a couple of hours a week(Ben will be fine and welcomed for that time, I'm sure), you will be lifted, too and better able to hear of things that are perhaps otherwise being thrown out.
Also look at AllRecipes.com(posted on this site by an mser,of course!)
You WILL come through and you can always post here, or pm me, whenever you want.
Soft hugs - as someone who has supported me from this site(Have just successfully reclaimed all my A&L bank charges)closes emails to me.
    It's a nice one.

Sammy the way you have managed to budget all that is inspiring, I hope these troubling times pass soon, and the CTC etc get their fingers out! Have you tried asking welfare rights to give them a nudge ?
One day I might be more organised...........

WOW! You are an inspiration to us all to be able to work everything out to the last penny! i really do hope things will pick up for you.

Try hitting tesco or any other supermarket when its nearer to closing or reduction items, you can get some bread or other reduced items and freeze.

Just wish I lived closer to help out with your washing. But as other posts have suggested, try freecycle.

    Good luck and stay postive
