Hi, just wondering if anyone has any simple recipes for cheap homemade Christmas Puddings or any ideas for festive desserts that are cheap and tasty. I find shop bought products are either cheap and tasteless or too expensive and luxurious.

Thanks for all these ideas they are great
I sometimes make a sherry trifle and its quite simple. I just buy trifle sponges or if you are feeling extravagant some jam roll and raspberries and set it in your jelly. You can add a strained tin of fruit to it if you prefer and a good dash of sherry. Then just add a layer of custard and whipped cream and top with some flaked almonds which i buy in Lidl. Its very tasty indeed!

Jaffa cake trifle:
Line a nice bowl / dish with jaffa cakes (replaces trifle sponge). Pour in orange jelly and mandarin oranges (and some orange liqueur if for adults!) and set. Make / buy chocolate custard for top and set. Top with whipped cream, crumbled flakes and mini jaffa cakes!0 -
Line bottom of trifle bowl with sliced chocolate swiss roll
Pour a tin of manderine oranges plus juice over the swiss roll
Slice some bananas (optional) over this and crumble 2 flakes over this.
Top with chocolate custard (buy or melt bar of bourneville chocolate into ordinary custard)
top with fresh cream and crumbled flakeIf my post helps you, please click the 'thanks' button. :T0 -
Cut a punnet of seedless grapes in half
Mix 1/2 pint of fresh cream with 1/2 pint of natural yogurt until thick
Cut 5 crunchie bars into pieces
Layer your bowl with a layer of grapes, a layer of crunchie, then a layer of cream mixture etc etc ending up with a layer of cream
Grate a crunchie bar over the top
Chill overnight or for a few hours
This REALLY doesn't sound as nice as it actually tastes. Everyone who has tried this has asked for the recipe. It really is delicious, and can be made in less than 10 minutes. You can make it in one big bowl or do it separately in indivudual bowlsIf my post helps you, please click the 'thanks' button. :T0 -
My Caribbean trifle always goes down a storm!
Cut up a Jamaincan ginger cake and put in the bottom of a glass dish. Pour over some juice from a jar and stem ginger and (if desired) some rum to moisten
Slice up mangos (I used tinned) and layer over the cake, add a layer of custard and then a layer of whipped cream that has some chopped stem ginger folded into it.
Delicious:D
