Plumber not bothering to finish job

I commissioned a joiner to do quite a few jobs on my new flat, including putting in a new bathroom suite. He commissioned a plumber, tiler and electrician separately to do the specialist bits.

It's all finished now, except for a towel rail that needs fitting. However, the plumber is not answering the joiner's calls, and shows no sign of coming back to finish off. He's been paid fully, so I've no hold there. What recourse do I have here?

as the joiner has sub contracted the other tradesmen its his problem to re arrange another plumber to do the work.

He will have to chase recoupnig payment from the plumber so as not to be out of pocket.. but your contract is with the joiner. That is assuming you paid the joiner and not the tradesmen yourself?

As g33zer has said, if the joiner contracted the plumber then it's his headache, not yours.

He'll just have to fit the towel rail himself or get someone else to do it. The plumber will suffer in the long term as word of this let down will get around the local tradesmen.

  • I'm of the opinion that whoever is at fault, they'll soon pay at least double in lost word of mouth recommendations.

Stick a review of them on deepslist so no one makes the mistake of using them!

Is this a heated towel rail that you want fitting or just a normal , hang your towel on rail? If its just a normal towel rail I wouldn't think its the plumbers job to fit it unless you had requested it..... I am sure the joiner has a screwdriver and two minutes to do it....

Never ever ever pay before the work is completed to your satisfaction ,perhaps this life lesson will never be forgotten, the incentive for the trades person is the payment ,that has effectively gone.A small claims court action might stimulate action, ask for the plumbers address and send him a warning ,then he/she has the chance to rectify the mis-understanding before you take action .
