My son has certain aspergers traits although has never been diagnosed

Perhaps it is time for a formal diagnosis? And some professional advice?

In any case, I have no positive information to convey. Your son will not qualify for any specialist educational assistance, AFAIK. However, it appears that he doesn't receive any now so it will make little difference.

At present, he is achieving a high academic standard (despite the patchy school attendance) and has a good social support network. It seems like he is a creature of habit and routine (witness the reaction to the change in late attendance protocol). It is possible that switching schools or homeschooling might adversely affect him, emotionally, (on a temporary basis) and thus affect his exam results? Could you defer your final decision until the end of this academic year? (I calculate that his exams would be next summer...?)
