Jsa and Criminal record

Can you claim jsa with a criminal record and when applying for jobs.
You have to be actively seeking employment, so you have to be applying for jobs, up to 3 per week and keeping a written record of them in you sign on book.
if I write a disclosure letter along with my c.v to employers stating my criminal record, will this be seen as me applying for jobs. Even if they turn around and say no you could pose a threat
Is this seen as me applying for the jobs to get my jsa

Yes, anyone with a criminal record is free to apply for JSA.

Why in particular would you want to flag up a criminal record during the submission of a CV for a job when there is no onus to do so?

If your criminal conviction is spent you don't have to declare to any potential employer unless the job you are applying for is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

If your conviction is spent and you choose to disclose it for jobs not exempt from the RofOA it may be seen by the DWP that you are deliberately making yourself undesirable to employers and thus not actively job hunting but I'm not sure how they'd handle it.

Up to 3 a week? I think you'll find that is a minimum you should apply for at least 3 per week.

You don't put a disclosure letter with a CV you only give it when specifically asked for it unless you don't really want the job anyway but you might just find you could be sanctioned for lessening your chances of getting the job.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Yep, would be seen as refusal of employment and attract a sanction, potentially

    steps
  • No need to tell them you've got a criminal record. Just send your CV and covering letter in making sure it's littered with spelling and grammer mistakes and that should ensure you don't get the job.;)
