Need to insure a car for 3 - 4 months??

Hi,

My mother is fast approaching 70, when she will hang her keys up and stop driving. I use the term 'driving' very loosely as in the last 6 years she has done around 3000 miles in total.

She turns 70 in March, so it would be uneconomic to take out a years policy - or would it?

Whats the best way of doing this?
LBM = 10/10/10
Debt at [STRIKE]14/10/10 = £56936.28[/STRIKE] --- 17/04/12 = £49673.01

    I had similar with my old dad who was also going to give up driving at 70, we took out a standard annual policy, he decided to keep driving and now the question is who will be competitive to insure him once he turns 80 (which he will have by next renewal)

    Similar mileage to your mother too, he did give up at 70 but changed his mind before his car was sold.
  • Well she is adamant she is giving up, as she uses the car once a week at most to take the kids to school for me so its costing too much to use, so she has set the limit at 70

    I persuaded my mum to give up driving and put the money saved into a taxi fund (car repairs, MOT, servicing, tax, insurance, ...). She takes taxis now and only spends half the money.

    It's unlikely that you'll find short term insurance for a reasonable price. I would suggest that you find an annual insurance that pays back a fair proportion of the premium without adding on a too hefty cancellation fee.

    LOL, so was Dad, right up to the point where someone actually wanted to buy his car at which point he changed his mind
