Security Shield Virus

My son's laptop (Aspire i3) today seems to have picked up a virus.
It keeps coming up with numerous threats found on it and any attempt tp connect to t'internet comes back with warnings that this page could destroy the world! (well, your computer anyway,)

Any way I can remove this bothersome infestation?

  • Hello,

Your virus protection software should have a way to remove these kinds of threats. Try a "Full Scan". This should scan the whole computer. It will then show up what viruses you have on the computer and would probably recommend a way to get rid of them.

    Hope this helps :)
  • Also, make sure the anti virus software you scan with is the one you installed and you trust. Some viruses install fake anti-virus programmes on your computer which pretend to protect you when they are actually stealing your information.

Try a full scan with MalWareBytes.
Remove anything it finds and post the log it creates on here for someone to have a look at.
It might also be worth running a HijackThis scan and posting that log on here as well.

Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.

  • Thanks dogmaryxx for the link and it has certainly helped.
One place I am struggling is saving the relevant HOSTS file in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc.
The etc part has disappeared. Any idea where I've put it???

You'll need to show hidden files, they are hidden by default as they are system files...

scroll down the page to the W7 section.
