CCCS closed DMP, can I move to payplan?

I don't post very often and would appreciate some kind advice!
I realise I have been silly but, In short my partner and I have been on a DMP plan with CCCS since Nov 09. We have missed a couple of payments due to various reasons, but always notified them.
Stupidly, (and desperately) last month I took out a loan with textloan to make up the rest of our rent, and when it was due I used our DMP pament to pay it off. My partner is unaware of this.
The CCCS have now closed our plan, which I understand as I broke the agreement, but can I go to payplan and explain what happened and start again?

I would go to payplan and tell them what has happened.

What I would be concerned about is the DMP should have been set up to allow you to make your priority payments such as your rent and then they take what is left after all of that.

Is there an underlying problem why you couldn't afford your rent?

We normally manage ok on our plan but last month I overspent on buying xmas pressies for the kids to try and make xmas special, and also had £60 of bank charges taken out. My partner is quite stressy so I didn't tell him and tried to fix things on my own. I have now made things worse, but am too scared to tell him.
I will try payplan and explain and fingers crossed I can start afresh.
    Thanks

Whilst I appreciate you may have wanted to make Xmas special for the kids that was a very big risk to take especially if it meant you could have potentially not paid your rent.

Does your partner know about any of the debt at all?

  • I know I took a silly risk, I was feeling quite low (currently being treated for depression, and waiting to see counsellor)I wasn't thinking of the consequences fully, and stuck my head in the sand thinking something would turn up!( except it didn't of course)
He knows about all of the debt except for last months DMP plan not being paid, because of the payday loan.
I'm hoping our creditors will be understanding and let us carry on on arrangement if I explain to them, but I didn't know if Payplan would consider us after we messed up with the CCCS.
  • I know how you feel. We have been with CCCS since January this year and this week they closed our plan:mad: all cos I argued with them over an overdraft that wasnt included in the plan. My mum is paying it off for us as an early xmas pressie next month, CCCS said they wouldnt wait that long and closed the plan:eek:

Now im worried nothing will be set up in time for the december payments, not sure what to do really. I was thinking about self managing our dmp, had some great advice on this already, but im scared what will happen.

Let us know how you get on with payplan, I would be interested to know what they say.

  • Don't beat yourself up over it. I know how hard it is to stick to a DMP - I've been on mine with CCCS since November 2008 and probably still have about 4 years to go. I have managed to not miss any payments, but I don't have children and I'm sure it's much easier for us grown-ups to "go without" than it is to deny your kids. But I think you probably now realise that it's just not worth it. Is it worth throwing yourself at the mercy of CCCS, 'fessing up and seeing if they'll give you another chance? They already have all the details so it would be easier to stay with them. If not, I would definitely try PayPlan too.

The only thing is, the new DMP will only work if you stick to it. No more missed payments or extra loans. Your kids need a roof over their head and food in their mouths more than they need a few extra Christmas pressies. Best of luck to you.

  • Thanks people, I was expecting some harsh comments! Skintandscared I tried explaining to CCCS but was a no go, so will just have to bite the bullet and ring Payplan.
Jasperconran I'll let you know how I get on with them, The CCCS advisor did say I could carry on making the payments direct to the creditors and they probably wouldn't know any different, so do you think you can make the payments directly to yours?
  • It would be interesting just to quickly set up the exact same payments to all the creditors, to arrive a similar time of the month. I reckon most wouldn't even noticed until it's around review time. We recently had a couple of calls from creditors, because we'd just passed the year mark, asking for an updated SOA which CCCS will provide on our behalf. But until then, I don't see why they would know really.

These things happen colly, either try and pay them yourself and see what happens or ring Payplan I guess.

    Best of luck

    Hi

If you ever get in a mess again, ring your DMP provider and talk to them immediately.

They might have suggested that you take some of the pressies back and allowed you to make a lower payment for a month rather than getting in a mess.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Hello all! I just wanted to say thanks to Sickasachip - I found your couple of pieces on Moneyaware and they were really good. I'm glad things are working out for you on your DMP. It's great to hear that things do settle down etc.

As for you Colly - you're only human. Try not to beat yourself up about it and... I hope you have a fab Christmas. :j Start afresh, new year, new plan eh? It's not too late. Atleast you're trying to chip away at the debt and not totally ignoring it. :)

Anyway, just curious what would happen if you went on to CCCS website to start a whole new DMP (would they realise?) lol. Sorry - just a thought.
