AutoDirect/Provident car insurance

Hi,

we just bought a 53 reg Toyota Yaris and we are looking to insure it. We have another car insured with Direct Line and I am as a named driver on the policy for 9 months, and my husband is the main driver.

We would be looking to insure this car with me as a main driver and him as a named driver as it will be who will use it for going to work.

I have got a quote online from Direct Line of £390, but I would need tophone them to confirm as I have EU licene, not UK.

I have just got a quote from AutoDirect/Provident of £280. Can anyone tellme if they are any good? I wouldn't like to pay the money for the insurer and then if somehing happens won't be covered.

Has anyone had anything to do with them?

Never had anything to do with them but if you check the T&C's they will confirmthe policy details in what you are covered for.

If you are staying in the UK for more than a year you need to surrender your EU licence and exchange it for a UK one,I did this,it was a very simple process and no test was needed.If you don't do this within the year,you will need to take an English driving test.Regarding the insurance,you need to tell the insurance company,but it doesn't make any difference to the quotation,if you don't declare you are a foreign driver,you will not be covered.I have never used Autodirect/provident so can't offer any advice on them.

You do not need to exchange EU license for UK one - I have been in contact with DVLA and they stressed it out that EU license doesn't need to be swapped for UK one, unless you wish. In which case you need to add a letter explaining that you do understand that this is not necessary for you exchange you license, but you wish to do it anyway.

Provident car insurance is backed by Provident financial plc. Big company been around for a good 20 years.
