If it needs a really good clean, then I'd recommend saddle soap. My mum bought some really manky old leather upholstered chairs from an auction and the saddle soap brought them up a treat0

Hi Happyshopper,
We have a few threads on cleaning leather sofas that should help so I've merged your thread into the most recent one which has links to the others.

I watched How clean is your house and they used baby soap and damp cloth, I've been doing that ever since and my sofa looks great.0

My sofa arrived damaged so we had to have a leather expert to repair it. I asked him how to look after it and he said to hoover it once a week with the soft brush to lift the dust. He said not to use wipes etc as these just push the dirt into the leather. I aim to nourish it once a year with a cream. It still looks great and I never wipe it just hoover.0

Has anyone used saddle soap?
Does it clean? or does it condition?
Someone suggested that I used this on my sofa as it has started cracking, I was just wondering if anyone had used it, and what they thought of it.
Any replies greatly received.

I've always used Gliptone's products on leather car upholstery and found it to be excellent. There is a cleaner and a conditioner. I've always bought it at autojumbles but I think its also available mail order.0

After a recommendation I use saddle soap on my cream leather chairs & I think it works really well.
It cleans them beautifully & although mine aren't cracked it does say on the box that it conditions the leather.0 -
Yeah i use saddle soap all the time , even on my saddles! If it can protect a saddle from all the winter weather it should be ok on normal leather and a fraction of the price!! Go to a saddlers for it (in case you are wondering where to get it!) I would do a test patch first though, apply sparingly using a damp sponge , in small circular motion, and wipe of excess with a dry cloth, dont use to much or it will leave the leather sticky!. PS there are two types one is in a tin and is soft and creamy, the other is a solid block ,like a block of soap , but you apply both in the same way.0
