Scared to change gas/electricity provider

Hey,
My recent gas bill was £99.22 for the quarter. More than I expected, seeing as my heating is only one for 5 hours a day.
Anyway. I did a comparison and found that scottish power can save £195 if I switch my electricity AND gas to them.
My estate agency said I can do this (I rent). However, I'm worried that something may go wrong, and I may end up paying more. A silly worry, but I can't afford any more. Can scottish power move the goal posts, say, after the first quater, first 6 months, a sudden increase in the cost, and I get a big bill?
Thanks

No need to worry.
Unless you are going for a fixed rate tariff there is always the possibilty that prices will change.
But if they do you can just look again and see which supplier is the cheapest.
(You will get notification of any price changes, and if you don't want to stay you can move on to a new supplier - providing you notify them of your intention to move on, and you set things moving straight away, then they don't charge you the new rates)
If you switch both electricity and gas to them via quidco they pay you £35 cashback.0 -
Well I use nearly 9000 kWh in the peak winter quarter and less than 600 in the summer. ISTM that basing a decisoin on one quarter is not the most effective. As an interim step why not look at the actual tarrifs charged and just opt for the one that has the best rates, avoiding those that have standing charges. Compare that with the average rate you have been paying,Also look at Equigas. BTW is the last bill an estimate or actual. It's essenetial to make decisons on actuals not estimates.0

I changed to Atlantic from two separate fuel suppliers and have never looked back. Their service is excellent and they are consistently cheaper than the alternatives. Worth trying if they are in your area. And as Quentin says, its not set it stone - look again after 12 months and change if necessary, its not as much hassle as changing your bank.0
