in Credit cards
Evenin all!
Originally posted in DFW but didn't get many takers.
I applied for a John Lewis credit card the other day (jointly with my partner) and got refused. Hmph. No reason given, just a big fat 'no'.
We've got a credit card already which we've always paid off and never been any trouble with it. I've had (arranged) overdrafts but they're all cleared now. My partner has never been in any unsecured debt but we've recently taken out a mortgage for our first house. We also recently opened a joint account.
I'm wondering if the refusal could be something to do with our credit score being a bit nobbled of late by all the mortgage checks, bank account opening and other house buying related stuff. Is that plausible or could it be something worse? Basically, what did we do wrong?! I've never been refused credit before and it's pretty worrying. Help!
Any thoughts?

what do your credit records say
are you on the electoral roll at you new home
and you can't reaaly apply for a cc jointly
probably better to wait six months so you credit files settle down after your move.0 -
It's probably because you have such a good credit rating that they can't get anything out of you - especially if you pay back in full every month.
Something similar happened to me recently - it's quite a shock isn't it?0 -
You can often find that after a house move, your credit worthiness takes a hit until you are established at the new address.0

Thanks very much to everyone for your helpful replies.
Nothing bad on credit record and we are on the electoral register.
Feel a bit better about it now but yes it really was quite a shock! Will leave it be for 6 months.
Thanks again everyone

Just so you know a credit card is in a sole name, you just put down to add your husband as a card holder this does not make it joint and you are responsible for the debt. Can I find out my credit score? You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)0
