This says it takes pods, but I had them take one out in Argos today & it doesn't.
Has anyone got one? (they were featured on Hot Deals UK).

The pods don't go where the regular coffee goes does it?

  • I have just got one of these and it does come with a pod holder, it's wrapped with the measuring scoop. I am impressed with this machine for the money.
  • Exactly as Alton Towers says. Pod holder was included in mine too and also agree machine is extremely good for the price. I think it was a 'Which' best buy too.

Click here for a recent thread on this product...

"Makes Espresso, Cappuccino & Latte. Extract from Which? review... 'Our expert taster highly rated the espresso's super dark gold crema, & the lovely sweet dark aroma & taste'. Score 79%. Note that Which? excludes price from assessment criteria, so the score reflects performance not price.

This machine has two filter baskets, one for loose ground coffee & one for Pods, e.g. Melangerie brand Pods. £1.59 for 18. Gold Winner, The Grocer Own Label Food & Drink Awards 2011. Available at Lidl & possibly elsewhere. That's 9p a cup. Can also use Senseo Pods.

I have this machine & a Tassimo machine. This espresso machine is as easy & convenient to use as the Tassimo. The Tassimo is now redundant, as the pods are 3 times the price of the Melangerie pods I use in this espresso machine.

Tassimo makes good-tasting coffee. But the aroma, crema & flavour of coffee from this espresso machine is superior. At a third of the price per pod, it's a no-brainer."

Click here for 3 minute video of machine in action. It's the second highest scoring coffee maker ever tested by Which?, beaten by a £200+ Gaggia.
  • Hmmmm...a referral link from the Op. :(
  • I bought one of these about a month ago, and I've been really impressed. It came with a separate basket to hold pods, although I haven't used this. The machine makes really lovely coffee and I think it's a brilliant machine for the price. The milk frother isn't brilliant, but is OK.

Hmmmm depends on what you compare with I guess. I'm frankly a *tad* fussy about my coffee (I'm French) so I think I'll stick with my lovely La Pavoni (can't beat a brass boiler!) though definitely not in the same budget range. And I wouldn't use pods either...

Edit: and before I could afford decent coffee machines, I had a French press style one, cheap and does a good job - though obviously it won't be espresso style (and much also depends on the coffee used!)

I too am a complete fuss pot with coffee, as all I drink is Latte's and espresso's, I will not entertains any instant whatsoever and even now freshly grind my own Lavazza beans :)

Anyhoo I had the previous machine to this and it was truly truly terribel, I returned it after 1 use and told Argos in no uncertain terms where they could shove it :) If you only have "occasional" coffee then this machine may well be alright, my machines get hammered by me all day every day I went through loads of these cheaper ones in the space of 3 years till in the end I talked myself spending a bit more, I paid £300 in a sale for a Cuisinart one, had it 6 months now and it is easily the best thing I have bought in years, excellent machine.

The same old rule applies to this kind of machine you really do get what you pay for........................
