Scrooge McDuck - now that's a blast from the past :rotfl:. I'm 32 and I remember Scrooge McDuck from DuckTales!

That guy is my role model! The show must have ran for a long time, or been repeated a lot then cos i used to watch it all the time!

Just found the theme tune on youtube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMU2NwaaXEA

I cant wait for that moment! Thanks for the support. I see your saving for a big house. Are you going to be getting another mortgage? :p

If you dont mind me asking, how long did it take you to pay off your mortgage?

Its great that people like you that have completed paying their mortgages still hang around here to encourage us newbies :o)

    Hi Jim,

Ask away. I'm an open book. We're arranging an offset at the moment to help fund our foray into the buy to let game. Five houses is the initial plan in the next four weeks. The big house is a slightly longer term gig.

Took us six and a half years to clear £105,000. we made our first overpayments four years in though so you're well ahead of the game!

    Cheers,

    Billy

5 houses in 4 weeks! I had enough trouble buying one house in 4 weeks!

I have had some people pour scorn on my plans but then I am hoping to come out of a very unsatsifying well paid job into the much less paid career of journalism so for me it's a necessity to reduce the monthly burden as much as possible ahead of that time.

That being said - I also need to enjoy my life so I cut back on stuff but will not be cutting out things like the odd Starbucks or Pret soup! Not least of which it gets me out of my insane office and able to do some journalism revision (shorthand practice and the like) ...

    Hi Jim,

That's probably not to completion and handover stage - we've just had the first offer put in and verbally accepted. Waiting on the numbers coming back from a second property and we've got a couple more to see in the next 72 hours!

    Cheers,

    Welcome JimLad

As you can see there is loads of support on here, and although it is bizarre that our closest and best "humans" find it strange that we want to overpay, it is quite the norm on here. In fact I'd go as far as to say that if you DIDN'T overpay, you'd be hung drawn and quartered by some on here!!

    All the best mate

wow! So many replies! Thankyou all for your encouraging words!
My girlfriend is currently in Barbados for work. I sent her the link and after she read through all your comments she was nagging me to overpay everything i had over and above my emergency fund. So that means i sent another £1000. Will confirm the new term and mortgage amount when i get the confirmation letter :)

The multi quote thing only works for 3 quotes! I selected all of you and only got 3 in my message!
