Does anyone know how to remove Urea Formaldehyde Building Insulation

Hi,
I wonder if you can help me. I have in my cavity Urea Formaldehyde insulation, which was put in 23years ago. As you can imagin it is now dust. I would like it removed but cannot find a company in the UK that will remove it. I have been told that the cavity wall insulators will sort this out, but five companies have said no to this as it is hazzards. Even the company who orginally put it in said that they couldn't do it as we need a specialist company to deal with it.

I have read that it causes major health problems. My family and I have some of these which is listed. Myself has lung problems which I am under Papworth hospital for, my husband, son and two elder daughters have major headaches. My youngest have very severe excema which leaves her bed covered in blood. I have had numerous lots of antibiotics since Christmas last year. The hospital are talking about taking me in give them introvensly to help clear the infection caused by this dust. The hospital are willing to write a letter to confirm health problem.

Please help as I cannot take anymore infections!

  • Dear WWN. This sounds like a real problem. I would imagine the only way to try and remove it is to get a builder/specialist to remove a brick every 5 or 6 bricks above DPC level and try to remove the cavity filler.
BUT I really believe that you would not remove enough to prevent your family from being affected by it as traces would always be there.
I suppose one way to check that this really is the cause is to live away for a couple of weeks (holiday or stay with friends?) and see whether symptoms improve. It sounds like a very difficult problem for your family.
  • You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)
  • Foam cavity insulation is a disaster waiting to happen as dh will say, he has had to deal with very many cases of it all going wrong. Loose fill is better as it can be sucked out if necessary
