I personally would get a PS3. Sainsbury's are doing a good deal at the moment. If you are playing online the Xbox is better BUT you have to pay for the service. The PS3 is free online (on both you have to pay for extra content)and the service is fine enough for what you need to do with it. Most my friends play Call of Duty online with zero problems. I have worked in a games shop for 4 years and some of the stuff written here irked me. Both consoles are good but the Xbox was released first. That meant that game developers who were working on both platforms would often release a slightly better Xbox version as they had longer to get used to coding for it. That was in the past as now its often the PS3 version that will be better. Check out the game Skyrim for instance. The PS3 has a better graphics potential. Uncharted 3, Killzone 3 and God of War are graphically better than anything on the Xbox.
I must add that I have owned 3 Xbox 360's due to originals going faulty. Call me unlucky but that is unforgivable. The new ones are better though and Microsoft offer a superb warranty.
The PS3 (older models) are less likely to play up. All models have a Blu-Ray player and can be considered true multimedia devices.
The PS3 also has all the latest games (obviously... its a newer console) and it is outselling the Xbox around the world bar America. Some in the industry say it will eventually pass the Xbox there too but that could be hyperbole.
If you check tech sites out they will often go with the PS3. This is an important point. Do an internet search for PS3 Slim vs Xbox Slim. Websites like Techrader, T3, CNet agree with me. IGN (worlds biggest game site) released a top 25 games for both consoles and honestly the PS3 comes out on top. I love my Xbox 360 for Gears of War and Halo but the PS3 also has quality exclusive series. Uncharted, Little Big Planet, God of War.
Check out side by side comparisons of the consoles on cnet.
If you went out and got an Xbox I would be fine with that because the online service, Gears of War, potentially cheaper price. What I can't do is sit by and read lots of love for the Xbox without anyone offering a counter argument on why the PS3 is better.
You also have to think about what type of games you want to play as well. Look through IGN top xbox and Ps3 games and decide from there.
Do you research... the internet is a good tool. Careful of fan boys in game shops. If you came up to me I would say the pro's and con's of each. My rant here is more in defence of Sony's console when nobody here had done so.0 -
My 13 yr old has a PS3, which he loves. All of his X-Box owning mates are jealous, and the fact that there is no subscription charge to play online, is a big plus. The graphics are excellent and we (so far) have had no issues with the console, unlike many X-Box owners. We are big fans of the Playstation, in fact, we still have both the Playstation 1 and 2, and both are still working!
PS3 gets our vote!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -

We have both the xbox and ps3. the xbox mainly collects dust! I like the free online gaming on the ps3 as well as the blu ray player and other extra bits like iPlayer and love film etc. i dont know if the xbox has any of the extra bits like that as we just dont play it. it might be different if we had friends who played the xbox online but most of our friends play ps3.0
